Owner description: This emblematic site in the history of Avignon is known throughout the world in the famous song. Built in the 12th century, it was destroyed several times by spates on the Rhone River, before being rebuilt and finally abandoned in the 17th century.

this is the famous bridge of Avignon? Really, not much to see. Easy to understand why, the last time if fell down, they didn't rebuild it. There was once a famous cafe under the bridge; but that's long gone.

So much else to see and do... spend about 5 minutes here; tops. It's not "romantic" or anything; it's and old bit of bridge; nothing special.

Note: they will charge you to walk on the bridge! If you see the Palais first; then it's only a euro or two to walk on the bridge. Even then... would be hard pressed to say it's "worth" even a single euro to walk on the bridge, unless you want bragging rights to tell others you walked on it.

when the audio guide would be a little bit shorter, it be easier to walk, now you have to stop an awfull lot, otherwise your are out of distance, and although it nice for a grown up for childeren it is only an old bridge who stops in the midlle of the river, maybe in the future they make it more a show , because who doesn,t know the French song about the pont de avignon,

Had visited this bridge during the off season, in early december. It was really windy on the bridge, so keep it in your mind. It's great when accompanied with an audio guide. It gives a lot of information (sometimes too much) and you'll definetely like the music. :) It is better to buy the ticket to both bridge and the popes palace.

A good trip but do use the audio guide as it is full of information.
Standing on the end of the bridge really shows how wide the river is. Everyone likes a photo of themselves "sur le pont" so be nice to shy foreigners and offer to take their photo.

This is a lovely bridge that is best viewed from the lovely English gardens above the Popes Palace. Once on the bridge, the view all around is wonderful too and you might just see one of the lovely river boats that ply their trade up and down European Rivers these days. Plenty of history on the bridge and a nice place to relax and wind down.
