“La Mirande, excellent”
Reviewed June 11, 2005

La Mirande is an excellent, luxury, small hotel in Avignon. It is immediately accross the street from the Pope's palace. From their beautiful rose garden, you can see the Palace rise above the stone wall. Their staff is the absolute best. Francis, one of the receptionists, made and confirmed our dinner reservations. Made arrangements for our tours even though they were with companies he had no prior dealing with. He arranged flawless transfers from the airport. He arranged for our tour of the hotel rooms and offered to have us stay a night in a quieter room, if we wanted, because a wedding was being held at the Hotel. We didn't accept the offer and the wedding music was beautiful!
The hotel is in a historic building (Cardinal's residence) and the restoration is flawless. The rooms are beautiful, the bathrooms pure luxury. The breakfast dining room overlooks the garden and is filled with roses. The food at breakfast and in the elegant dining room in the evening is world class and maybe the best in Avignon. There is a cooking school in the basement adjacent to the wine cellar. When we were there, there was a class in session. The group of about 12 people and the two chefs were cooking and enjoying a glass of red wine. The large, rustic/elegant table was set for them to enjoy their meal after they finished cooking. It all looked very appealing.

My wife and I loved the Hotel, very charming and quite and in a great location, centrally located but off the beaten path. The dining room is highly recommended, we had the roast veal for two, elegant yet no stuffy. The staff is open for anything, one night we felt like pizza, they went and got us one, they ran us Jim Beam and club sodas from the Bar with a smile. This feels more like a home than a hotel, if your looking for the Four Season's this is not it, but if you want to experience Avignon, I'd highly recommend it.

Martin and his staff really know how to run a hotel. We booked the entire hotel a few years ago for our wedding, and we (and our guests) still talk about the beauty, level of service and attention, the food...i return every year and i am never disappointed. the hotel is impeccably restored. i can't say enough good things about this beautiful, classy hotel.

If you are one of the lucky people about to make a trip to Avignon and you have reservations at La Mirande you better prepare yourself. You will never want to leave. You will have to drag yourself from the wonderful bed (with custom linens), force yourself to pack your things, bid farewell to the many people on staff who know your name because they have pampered you to the bone, and walk thru a most breathtaking piece of architecture to get to your car. I am not someone who is pleased easily. So rest assured, if you have chosed to vacation at La Mirande, you have chosen the best. I wish I were there.

I had a glorious stay at the hotel Mirande in June. The hotel has a perfect location, just steps from the Pope's palace. The rooms are charming and the public rooms sumptuous. I had the best meal of my trip to France at the hotel, dining outside in the garden. The service was the best I experienced in all of France and watching the sun set on the Pope's Palace is unforgettable. I can't find any fault with the staff, who went out of their way to be helpful. Just don't try to drive to this place--the streets are so narrow and like a maze I suggest leaving your car outside the walls and cabbing in.
