“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

This hotel is in a house with 410 years old, but inside is very modern, clean, wonderful! We loved this! The owner was very friendly, the localization is good and it has a parking near. I recommend this hotel.

We did not stay here, but I wanted to share my views regarding the pre-trip communication and reception at this establishment. We communicated extensively before the time to confirm that we book a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. We were told this would be through linking 2 seperate smaller apartments. I also asked for the first floor as there is no lift (my parents of 75 were traveling with us). I did all this confirmation not only through e-mail, but also phoned. On arrival we were shown (by a very disinterested fellow - there is no reception area!) to a one-bedroom, one bathroom unit on the fourth floor! The second part of ths apartment was a double bed on a very small mezzanine level (so small that wire-netting is used to prevent people from falling to the area below. Despite this not being at all what was promised, I was charged the full fee for cancelling on the spot.

Good location within walking distance to the centre and surrounded by good bars and restaurants. Our studio apartment was tiny but fine for one night - it would probably get a bit claustrophobic if you stayed there for several days. The sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable and stable and the entire studio was renovated, modern and clean. There's no air conditioning and the room was extremely hot; the floor fan helps a bit. Good wifi in the rooms.

There are signs saying if you do not leave your room by 11am you'll be charged for another day. The receptionist knocked on our door at 10:57 and told us to get out. I asked for 10 more minutes and he was not happy but said ok. When we got out of the room at exactly 11:10, another staff member made the comment to the receptionist that 'They are leaving at 12, you should charge them for another day'. Fortunately the receptionist dismissed the comment. This was an unnecessarily stressful end to the stay and doesn't make me feel like I'd stay there again.

The building is not really signed very well but when you see a Cuban bar and an Italian restaurant at a fork in the street, you're only a few meters away.

Room Tip: Our room at the back was very quiet.

This place was another one of those places where we had to climb 3 flights of steps on our way to our hotel room which is not a good idea when you have a heavy tramping bag and a large backpack. From the start I was not impressed with this place. Firstly, there was no proper reception area. We had to pay the owner when we left as opposed to on arrival. The transaction was carried out at the base of the staircase in the semi-darkness when we were heavily loaded with our luggage. Also the owner made some calculation errors and overcharged us until we corrected this. The 6-person room itself was poorly designed with a mezzanine-floor toilet and bathroom only reachable via the master bedroom and no separating wall between the bathroom and bedroom. We ran out of hot water very quickly too and there was a leak from the shower. One of the double beds was located in an attic-like section of the room on the top of a rather sheer staircase which held a poorly- positioned painting prone to being knocked down when descending the stairs. The attic had a very low ceiling and we had to be careful when standing up to avoid head injuries. For an apartment, I was disappointed with the lack of a proper jug so we had to resort to the coffee maker to boil water which tested our patience due to its slow dripping system. There was also a penalty of 10€ for not washing the dishes and 5€ for not arranging it properly afterwards. On the positive side, the wifi was great, despite the very long and complex password. The location was pretty good despite the fact that the apartment was not very obvious from the outside. Overall this place was disappointing and I would not recommend it to others.

I arrived in the old city of Avignon in the evening and had a tough time locating the street of this hotel. The street appeared under construction and the address indicated showed a dilapidated building with no signage whatsoever of these apartments. Asking people on the street about this place proved to be difficult with no one having heard of such a place.

I then tried calling the number provided four times but was rerouted directly to a voicemail in French which I could not understand. Given it was getting dark and we didn't want to remain stuck in the narrow roads of the old city, we had no choice but to leave to find alternative accommodation (and pay the expensive rack rate).

A few days later, I got a notification that this hotel had charged me the entire no-show fee of over EUR300 and they refused to change their policy even though there was no way I could have located the apartments on that evening.

Be careful when you make a reservation here.
