“This hotel is fabulous”
Reviewed October 30, 2005

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights in October and absolutely loved it. The hotel has a lot of old world charm and the staff from the people at the front desk, to the bartender and dining room staff could not have been more helpful or polite. The room was quite large and the bathroom was particularly nice with a shower and tub and seperate room for the WC. The location is perfect, you can walk to all the major sites but you are not in the middle of touristland. We had dinner there one night and thought it very delicous. I would highly recommend this hotel when visiting Avignon.

On a recent trip to Provence my husband and I spent three nights at the Hotel d'Europe. Had I kown how wonderful it was, it would have been my choice for a whole week.

When we decided to stay in the Avignon area, we debated whether to stay in the city or at one of the hotels across the river or in a more secluded location. At the last minute, because of the reviews I had read on TripAdvisor, I booked a room at the Hotel d'Europe and I am so glad I did.

From the moment we arrived, the staff excelled in everyway. As we pulled up on the tiny narrow street, a young man was immediately there to move the car to a safer place. The front desk personnel were gracious and helpful - no pulling out of credit cards or filling out any information - just a simple please follow me to your room.

We had reserved a superior room (115) and it was absolutely wonderful. We overlooked a small courtyard in the middle of the hotel with large windows that opened for fresh air and sunshine. The room itself was very large with a sitting area, bedroom area and huge bathroom. And it was absolutely quiet. The front courtyard was an absolute delight as was the entire property.

There is free internet with an American keyboard (much appreciated) Laundry was returned at exactly the time promised and the bartender somehow remembered our room number as did the front desk after the first time we asked for our key.

We only had breakfast at the hotel; however we enjoyed drinks in the bar and in the courtyard and just enjoyed the atmosphere. There are several wonderful restaurants just across the street from the hotel and in the town square.

And it was a plus to stay in the walled city if you have not been to Avignon before. This allowed us to tour the city, shop and return to our room to relax and drop off packages, etc. It was an easy walk to all of the major sights of Avignon. I am so glad we did not have to drive in and out of the city.

While our room was priced at 429 euros, I think any of the rooms would have been a delight.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area. It is a wonderful combination of location, service and ambience that makes a vacation memorable and special. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hotel d'Europe.

My husband and I had our best nights' sleep in Europe at this hotel. The whole property is gorgeous. Even though we were in their least expensive double room, it was full of character and comfort and touches of luxury. And everyone at the hotel treated us with the same gracious attention as the people in Suites costing (literally) 10 times what our room cost.

The location is fabulous. The Pope's Palace and the main square are a five minutes' walk away and the famous bridge is about seven minutes away. You are also close to ferries and river cruise opportunities. And Avignon is perfect as a central base for exploring the region.

Breakfast in the courtyard is expensive but delicious, delightful and worth every cent. We splurged on dinner in the gorgeous courtyard one night and were impressed with the quality of the food and the atmosphere. Next time we come back, we'll save up enough money to stay in a Deluxe Double. We saw two of them and they are Huge, and more elegant than any designer showhouse I have seen.

We had such a wonderful time here that we changed our itnerary and booked a room for our last night in the south of France. Even though this involved dealing with hotels and and trains and missing a couple of towns, it was one of the best decisions we made. We left Provence happy and relaxed down to the cellular level.

The hotel was pure luxury. From the moment we arrived when the porter took our luggage and parked our car we were impressed. The hotel is on the edge of the town near the Pont d'Avignon and has some good restaurants nearby, if like us you can't afford to eat at the hotel. The room was nice and the bathroom fantastic. The staff were extremely helpful.
