“Avignon for 5 nights staying at Hotel Bristol”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

We have recently enjoyed 5 nights at the Hotel Bristol in Avignon. The hotel is located within the City walls, providing easy walks throughout the City, to the famous Bridge, the Cathedral & the many Restaurants. Well located too for the main rail station which is an easy walk, & the new TGV station a taxi or bus ride away. The Hotel staff were welcoming, friendly & helpful. The breakfast service was very good with a wide selection provided. Rooms on the front can be noisy & we had an excellent room with a view on the side. We left an item in our room & the Hotel without any fuss or charge arranged to post this on to us in the UK. An excellent base for a stay in Avignon & Provence. Ian UK

Room Tip: Rooms at the front can be noisy.

Keys ready and waiting when group of 19 arrived.
Gave us a heater as a cold spell struck.
Room was on the large side.
Nice balcony although it was raining so we never used.
Free Internet

Two chairs for us to work on our computers.
Front desk is always ready with the keys and smiling.
Very welcoming and positive.

For breakfast have canned fruit and fresh.
Three people always there to help, get coffee & hot chocolate, deal with special orders.
Clean tables always available.

Very close to the train station (TGV) and handy for all travelers.
Very close to the center of town.

Bath and Showers need complete redo.
1/4" gap between tub and tile - moldy.
Carpet is close to end of life.
Need more electrical outlets.
For power we had to disconneted the TV.

Great location right on the main avenue in the Old Town and almost directly across from the tourist information center make this hotel a convenient place to stay in Avignon You can easily walk anywhere from here in the Old Town. Once you enter the hotel you have to go up a few steps to the desk--there is a small lobby area and two very small elevators, one serving the south building and one the north--the elevator could handle only two people with luggage at one time--very inconvenient. The staff at the desk was pleasant and very helpful, even calling to make dinner reservations for you.

The rooms are rather small, ours was about 15 X 15 with a pretty good king size bed taking up alot of space. There is no real storage for clothes, just some shelves--we stayed 4 nights on a tour and had to keep most of our clothes in our suitcases. The room had a small flat screen TV with only one English station, a stocked fridge (everything was a charge), a tiny safe (too small for a Samsung tablet but we could keep passports in it), but no coffee/tea maker which was a real negative. One very big plus is the free wifi which works well in the rooms. We had a very large bathroom (and could keep one of our suitcases in there). That room had a tub, but curiously, no shower curtain or safety bars--taking a shower was quite a trick trying to keep the floor from getting soaking wet--do not understand why no shower curtain. Another problem with hotel was the fact that it is made up of different buildings, so on some floors you have to drag your luggage up at many as 8 or 9 steps to get to your room

Our tour group had an adequate buffet breakfast each morning--scrambled eggs, good sausages some mornings, bacon other mornings, cold cerals, pastry, bread, fruit, very good coffee and tea. A good start to the morning.

We had room 317 on the south side, near the front. Sometimes we heard street noise, street cleaning equipment and on Saturday night pounding music late into the night--luckily we had ear plugs to shut out some of the noise. It might be a good idea to get a room in the rear.

There are many dining options within a few blocks of the hotel, a Carrefour market, useful to pick up snacks, soda, etc, about 2 blocks north and an ATM machine right across the street. There is a lovely park also across the street to relax and sit outside.

This is rated as a 3 star hotel which is probably accurate. I would rate it average for the some the issues it has, but very good for the great location, excellent free wifi and the very helpful staff. Not a bad stay but there were some bothersome things about this place.

Room Tip: Get room in rear away from street noise.

Very well situated and close to major attractions of Avignon. Hotel staff were very helpful and assisted us in all request. Rooms are not similar in size therefore I recommend to check before. We were in winter time and the heating was not in its best but as mentioned above the hotel staff did their best and provided us with a portable heater that did the job.If you are with a car parking places can be found just around the block (free from 19:00-09:00). Before booking online do a check with the hotel directly.

Room Tip: Rooms are not similar and some can be really small so check before and if needed request for a bigge...

Very happy at the Bristol. We looked initially into the Horolge but it felt very cramped and the uniformly woodchip bedroom walls of standard and very similar superior rooms made it a no-no. So glad we ended in the Bristol which is at the other end of the main street.
Bristol standard room at 92 euros off-season very spacious, equivalent of a large Superior room elswhere. Minimalist decor but fresh and attractive. In the platane tree tops high above the main street, quiet behind double glazing.
Reception and staff characterful, real-world, proud of their hotel, friendly though professional.
Fridge but no tea-making. Dangerously well-stocked mini bar. Good location just inside city wall, near station and on the main street and therefore easy to get to on sat-nav without getting tangled up in the narrow streets of the old town which are much better walked.
A member of staff can take your car to private parking (12 euros) - though it gave everyone a good laugh when he got into the passenger seat of our right-hand drive car.
Half a mile walk up wide tree-lined main street to Place Horolge with reasonable choice of restaurants. Recommend Couscouserie up steep uninviting steps to a pleasant informal atmosphere - best two tables at window overlooking square if you're early enough to bag them. Have a huge and delicious couscous. Also choice of less huge and delicious tagines. Reasonably priced about 14 euros each.
Just past the Place is the Ducal Palace and beyond that the gardens with views over the Rhone and Pont d'Avignon.

We went to this hotel for a 3-night stay in Avignon last week. We were given Room 101 which I hoped was not a bad sign of things to come!!! Anyway, the room was large, clean and well maintained. The twin beds were comfortable and quite large.
We slept well and although we heard noises from a delivery van/rubbish lorry it didn't particularly disturb our sleep. We were pleased with our choice of hotel as the staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was conveniently located. The room was a bit chilly but Avignon was very cold last week, with a strong, biting wind so perhaps the heating was not strong enough in such conditions. The receptionist kindly brought a portable heater up to our room when we mentioned that the room was a bit cool.
The breakfast was satisfactory but at 12 euros seemed a bit over-priced.
Avignon itself is a pleasant enough place to stay for a couple of days, although the pavements were soiled by lots of doggie pooh.
