Bristol Hotel
Ranked #24 of 69 Hotels in Avignon
Reviewed December 4, 2012

The Bristol Hotel is almost directly across the street from the main train station and it's right around the corner from the Avignon Poste bus stop (shuttles from the Avignon TGV station stop there).
The Bristol is a professionally run hotel, with helpful professional staff, an elevator, good sized rooms, and plenty of storage within the room. The room is equipped with a safe and a minibar.
The bathroom was a bit odd. There was a tub and shower. The water-saving showerhead resulted in showers that were little more than a trickle. And the shower curtain trailed far into the tub because it was too long. The hair dryer was one of those wall-attached types with a hose. No power and all the heat is lost in the hose. If you have long, thick hair, you may want to consider other arrangements.
We were on the 3rd floor facing the street. At off-times it was quiet, but during busy times we could hear a fair amount of traffic and street noise.
We passed on the breakfast offered by the hotel because we found it too expensive. There is a small cafe next door and we were able to grab a roll and coffee there for a very reasonable price. There is also a bakery and another cafe directly across from the hotel.
The staff were helpful and provided us with a city map and an orientation to the city when we asked at checkin.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor and see if you can get something away from the street.

This is a very nice hotel. We had twin bed room. It is just like what on the picture nicely decorated. We feel the quality of room is 4 stars hotel quality with 3 star hotel price. The location is perfect. It is across from visitors center. It is 5 minuets walk from city center train station and 3 minutes walk from tgv bus stop. It is perfect for our late night arrival.

The Bristol is centrally located with a range of restaurants close by. It is clean and the beds were very comfortable and the staff are helpful and friendly. Our room which was a good size was on the top floor at the back so it was very quiet. The one downside was the bathroom which had no heating. We visited early November so the early morning wash was rather challenging. There is a shower in the bath but no shower screen. I think this a good value for money hotel.

We stayed at the Bristol for four nights in October 2012. This hotel has both positive and negative aspects. The main positive is its location just inside the rampart walls of the old city. It is a short walk to both the bust stop and the regional train station. The old city is not very large, so all attractions within the walls are easily accessible on foot from the hotel. There are many restaurants nearby, the tourist information center is just up the street and there is a dry cleaner and laundry within easy walk also. Service from the reception and lobby bar are also positives. However, I was a little put off by their insistence that the wifi service worked throughout the hotel when it clearly did not work in many of the rooms. Unfortunately, the negatives are all centered on the room. We were in room 21. It is on the first floor in the back of the hotel. Each morning the trash haulers and delivery men made more noise than you’d hear at a 4th of July fireworks display. The room itself, at best, would be described as stark and a bit dingy. There was nothing but a couple light sconces on the walls; the carpet was in dire need of cleaning or replacement and the bathroom while quite large was very dated and in disrepair. The bathroom is an interior room, no exterior wall or window, which is vented into the sleeping area of the room. Also, there is insufficient room to unpack and put your things away. I’m not sure if any of the other hotels in the immediate area are any better, but I’d try one of those before staying at the Bristol.

Room Tip: Do not stay in room 21. It is noisy early in the AM and the wifi service doesn't work

We had 4 days at this hotel - and it was fantastic! The location was great - within 100 metres of the bus stop - the rooms were also large by French standards. We slept very well and it was lovely and quiet. Staff were brilliant - the only negative was that the wifi did not work in the room - so we had to sit in the common area downstairs to use the internet.

I thought the location was great, inside the city walls, close to restaurants and shops. A nice15 minutes walk to the pont d'Avignon.

Our room was nice, but the bathroom was old. I can tell by the pictures provided by the management that some bathrooms have been renovated and some have not. For the price we paid, I was a bit disappointed.

We had breakfast as we left on a Sunday and I thought the restaurants and cafés outside would be closed, but they weren't. I would have preferred the options down the street instead of a very basic breakfast at 12 euros per person in the hotel basement. And we had to boil our own eggs. They provide raw eggs, hot water and a timer...
