Both my husband and I have done extensive traveling..... so here is our review.
I didn't have high expectations for this palace, due to some of the reviews on this site. We arrived in the mid morning of a Monday. We purchased our tickets and audio guide. The audio guide provided good information about the palace. We were disappointed by the set up of a stage in the courtyard of the palace as well as the lack of things to see. There were maybe 2-3 rooms with information and videos. The audio guide does a good job of allowing you to hear the videos in your desired language.
As far as the palace is concerned, it was interesting. Our visit went down hill once we became confronted with an art exhibit (in the middle of the tour). The art was disturbing at best (a hanging horse with multiple appendages, ghostly shirts hanging down the stairway). We breezed through the last few rooms without the guide due to the strange art. I understand needing to use space, but I don't feel like an ancient building is the place.
Avignon is a popular destination, but it wasn't our favorite city during our visit in Provence.More
