Mercure Pont d'Avignon Centre
Ranked #13 of 68 Hotels in Avignon
Reviewed July 27, 2013

This hotel is located just inside the walls of the charming Avignon and very close to everything - shops, restaurants, the Pope's Palace and cathedral, the marketplace. It is modern and our double superior room was huge, with every comfort. It was in a corner, so we had windows on two sides. The bedroom had room for two chairs and a small table, and there was a separate small room with a sofa. Two plush bathrobes were available for our use, and the in-room coffee set up was a Nespresso, with a nice selection of individual cup brews. Our kids Standard room did not include the bathrobes, upscale coffee selection, and extra space that we had, but it was nicely appointed and good sized. The front desk staff were excellent. They made numerous calls on our behalf to find a taxi driver available on a holiday. The breakfast room staff was efficient and accommodating. And the men in our party enjoyed spending a few hours at the hotel bar while the ladies set out for souvenir shopping. Apparently there is another Mercure hotel nearby, so take note if you want to book a room at this one.

Room Tip: Pay for the superior room. The upgrade is worthwhile.

It is located in the heart of the city, so if you are on tour, you can walk to the attractions. The room had poor air conditioning. There were only two waiters for our group of 42 people. The shower head kept sliding down, so you could not just stand under it. So, the location was a big plus, but there was definitely room for improvement in other areas.

Room Tip: If you go during the Avignon Festival, make sure that you do not get a room facing the street, or yo...

Lovely hotel beautifully situated inside the walls of Avignon. Once car is parked you are able to walk everywhere.
Rooms were well presented and very clean.
A very expensive stay but worth it for one night.

We had a lovely stay, our room had a balcony with a view of the bridge entrance. Paid Parking is convenient to the hotel which is within walking distance of most of the old city sights. Our room was immaculate and comfortable although the bathroom was small. The buffet breakfast was very good and the reception staff were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble, and they gave us great advice on how to get the best from our visit and also on restaurants .

Be wary that inside the hotel, you have to negotiate a set of stairs down to the Registration desk. If you get to breakfast after 8.00am, you may find that with insufficient staff, food is short, they had run out of hot food, the tables were full of used crockery. You need to carry a washer as the hotel only provided liquid soap in the shower, but no washer. The location to the main square and attrations was good, but not sure if I would stay here again.

The Mercure was a nice little hotel right inside the walled town of Avignon. Misterpiggy could walk to either the Pont d'Avignon or the Palais du Pape in about five minutes. It was also very close to the many restaurants. Misterpiggy would stay here again. It was close to everything and had a great brekky. Score: 7.0 out of 10.
Here's the detailed breakdown of Misterpiggy's rating and more pics of the hotel:
