I think Tartines are basically 'toasties', but these ones are really really good ones. I had the eggplant and chevre - it came out as a large piece of bread, beautifully cooked eggplant ragout kind of thing with chevre cheese over the top. Then the raspberry tart - perfect creme anglais-y underneath and piles of raspberries. Great food, I'm getting hungry thinking of it. Very reasonably priced too.
Ambience is casual - probably more of a lunch place, but if I had to eat dinner here, I don't think I'd be suffering too much!

My family and I were recently in Avignon, and found this fun eatery. It is ideal for everyone, offereing something different to the usual rubbish one often encounters in a French town, I am sure great food exists in most places, but, as a tourist it is so hard to find. The charming Provencal decor, the huge selection of things on the menu, the quality of the food, and friendly waitresses are just the beginning of what is so good about this place. We had a bottle of very sweet "sticky" wine with our meal, usually only served with desserts in you live in Australia, so I was in heaven. The smoked salmon was tops, as were the crepes.
I am a cake snob; meaning, if the cake has no taste, or is boring or whatever, I just wont eat it. The cakes at Ginette and Marcel are tasty and hearty. PLease look at the photo.
I liked this place so much that we returend to eat there again the next day....breaking a rule of mine. I just could not resist. My daughters are 11 and 13 years old, and they were made to feel welcome.Husband is also a food snob, and even he was happy to return. This cafe caters for any age group. Yum Yum and thankyou to all of the "Ginettes" who cooked and served us. Very reasonably priced, I dont know how they do it. Dear Fellow Travellers, there is also a related eatery on Lyon called L'epicerie and Rennes, according to the business card I grabbed on my way out ( now stuck in my daughter's travel journal).
