“Beautiful country estate”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

This beautiful large property and it's delightful hosts, offered a welcome respite from our whirwind previous 3 days in Paris. Upon arrival, for our 3 night stay, it was a great pleasure to sit in the lovely tranquil, flower and bird filled garden, with a glass of wine.
The house is very large, and lovingly decorated and cared for by François, and Paco. Breakfast in the dining room, served on beautiful china, includes cheeses, fresh croissants, breads and homemade jam , marmalade, and honey, boiled eggs, juices, coffee, and François' daily fruit plate. One morning the fruit plate was pears marinated in Chateau neuf du Pape, another morning it was apples sauteed in butter and sugar. Delightful!
Our room, the Delacroix, is extremly large, with windows opening to the lovely gardens. The bathroom is also spacious. The tub is a lovely clawfoot, though getting in and out would present a challenge to anyone with mobility issues. The shower is strictly handheld.
The bed was my only issue. It was extremely firm and uncomfortable. I found it necessary to sleep on the more comfortable chaise in the room.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about our Hotel.
We are delighted that you had a pleasant stay in our house.
We are sorry for against the bedding you have agreed. It is difficult to satisfy everyone, some prefer firm mattress and others do not.
It would have been enough to let us know it next day morning that we would have to add on a mattress more in line with your expectations. The following nights would have been more enjoyable, rather than sleeping on the chairs as they are comfortable.
It will be our pleasure to welcome you again in a room with a bed mattress more suitable for your needs.

Our 5 day stay at Domaine de Rhodes was perhaps the highlight of our trip in September 2013. The homestead is beautifully renovated, the rooms tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Like previous reviewers, I can't say enough about our hosts Françoise and Paco - they are the most charming and helpful people. And Françoise's breakfasts were fabulous - beautifully prepared local fruits, yoghurt and pastries. A perfect start to the day before we headed out exploring the surrounding villages and sights.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Vilar room. Very spacious with views over the garden.

Domaine de Rhodes is a wonderfully tranquil and beautiful b&b just outside if Avignon. Rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Although in a historic building the rooms have all the mod cons from wife to fantastic showers and heated towel rails. Francois and Paco are wonderful hosts. Breakfast was set in a grand dining room. Local specialities were served every morning, just the right way to start the day. There are also apartments and gites on the property if you are looking for something a little different than the b&b. A great base for exploring Provence.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in September. We stayed in the Vilar room. The room was spacious and had a large bathroom with a tub and separate, large walk in shower and a hair dryer. The bed was very comfortable and it had a good size closet. There is a winding staircase to get to the room so if you have trouble with stairs or heavy or bulky luggage, this room might be a problem for you. The hosts, Francoise and Paco were delightful, warm and friendly. We rented a car with GPS and found the place without much problem. Once you are on the Ile de la Barthelasse, there are some small signs along the road showing the way to Domaine de Rhodes. It is also very close to La Ferme so you can follow their signs also.
As others have said, breakfast is wonderful. My wife thought the yogurt was great and each morning we were served different types of fruit. Francoise and Paco had suggestions on where to eat, made reservations for us and also on where to go. All of which were spot on. You are literally staying in the French countryside and we loved it.

Room Tip: You have to climb a spiral staircase to the Vilar room so if you would have a problem doing this, yo...

Domaine de rhodes is well deserving of its number 1 status. It is a delightful place to stay near Avignon, and definitely the best accommodation I stayed at on my three week trip through Europe. The great tragedy is that our stay was cut short by a night due to airport strikes in Marseilles! People rave about the breakfast and rightly so - It is honestly delicious. GPS and a car are required to travel here, but a car is really indispensable to get around to visit the villages in the region. It was easy to park in the free carpark just outside of Avignon, with a walk across the bridge to the old walled town or a free bus. We stayed in the Mistral room which was charmingly fitted in the French provincial style. Rates are very reasonable for a five star experience!

My husband and I stayed here two nights and wished it could have been longer. We stayed in two different rooms; Degas and Vilar. Both rooms were amazing and comfortable. Paco and Franoise were amazing hosts. The rooms look like they should be roped off like a museum with all the lovely furnishings and accessories. There are several common rooms to visit with other guests or just have a glass of wine. Breakfast is served in a large common area and is traditional European fare. We loved this place and wished we could have stayed longer. I would have moved in, if I could have! Stay here if you can...it's a no miss!
