We needed a home base for our explorations of Provence. Having stayed in the insanely busy Marseille last time, we figured we'd take it easy in Avignon. This place was spectacular. First off, the grounds were immaculate. The main building (dating back to the 16th century!) was gorgeous. There wasn't any air conditioning, and in early August, it was very hot to sleep at night, but it was worth it. The owners are like your favorite French Aunt and Uncle that you're going to visit for a few days. They're so nice and sweet. Breakfast on the patio in the morning was always excellent. Our favorite Provencal activity is to buy a picnic dinner at the markets and eat it at our B&B and Domaine De Rhodes provided the PERFECT setting for this. They had a gorgeous pool as well. I wish we stayed longer. On the other hand, Avignon was a filthy city that smelled of urine. I'd never tell anyone to visit Avignon, but if you do, you MUST stay here. It also is not in the city proper, but on an island in the middle of the Rhone. You really felt like you were way out in the country while staying here.

I was just back from south France and stayed 2 nights in this hotel with my friend. The place was very French country style and neat and comfortable. We felt so relaxed during the stay there. The breakfast is free and we tasted local juice, yogurt, honey and fresh bread.

Francoise and Paco are so nice and lovely couple, they are warm and helpful. Gave us great advice about were to go, so we not only had good memory about this hotel but also had good time at the places they recommended. Next time I will definitely bring my family to stay longer time.

Our week here (room Mistral) was by far one of our most amazing holidays. The owners are a beautiful couple and spend a lot of time and effort to ensure their guests enjoy their stay.

The reasons that I would definitely go back are:

- Location: The location is easy to get to & a very short drive (3 miles) from Centre of Avignon (free Park + Ride to the centre), making it a fantastic hub for visiting South of France / Provence / Luberon.

- Super luxury: The rooms and the entire house are luxuriously furnished, with charming furniture, luxury products etc.

- Facilities & Comfort: The facilities (the bedroom, the communal sitting areas, reading rooms, garden kitchen and diner, and the pool will make your stay very comfortable and enjoyable.

- Nature & Beauty: The property (the main house, all the cottages, and the garden) is pure French charm – it is inspiring. The garden is vast and beautiful.

- Sleep quality: The beds are firm and super comfortable, the rooms are spacious with superb ventilation, air conditioning, cooling and heating facilities.

- The owners: They will give you the most valuable thing of all – their time. We were greeted everyday with smiles and excellent conversation. They spent considerable time with us trying to ensure that we visit the main sights and do all that we had on our list. They provided directions, recommend best days, best places …

- Breakfast: Every mornin breakfast is tasty with fresh bread and pastries and local produce.

- Ease of Reservation: The reservation process was smooth and very easy.

Thank you Paco and Franciose for making our holiday so memorable:-)

Room Tip: 1. Definitely do everything that is recommended by the owners – they are spot on. 2. If you are d...

We stayed here for five days in Cottage Monet. The cottage was very cute and clean. The location is great-in the countryside but still minutes away from Avignon. The cottage was equipped with a stove, refrigerator and all cooking utensils that you would need. The bathroom was modern with plenty of hot water, great water pressure and towels. It was like having our own little home. There is an outside eating area lounge chairs.

Francoise always responded quickly to email questions before we arrived and booking was very easy, as we were able to use a credit card for the deposit. It was also a great value! Paco was also kind enough to open the drain to look for my husband's wedding ring which he thought fell into the drain (it was in the camera case).

We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: The cottages are great if you want peace and quiet, plus you save money by preparing your own meals...

Françoise and Paco are such nice hosts. We did not drive. so we arrived the domine with our lungage on taxi.(cost around 20euro FYI) it was during the Avignon Art festival that we couldnt hire a taxi. Francoise was so nice that she drove us to the town to rent a bike. They have been so friendly and helpful all long. The domine itself is beautiful. The garden is huge and nicely planted with different flowers and fruit trees. And you do not want to miss the swimming pool. we spent two afternoon there and it was so relaxing.
We were a bit late so we were only able to get the cheapest room. The room is spacious, and nicly decorated, but without air condition. I would recommend you to get the more expensive room which has the air con in summer because it would be hot even at night in Provence. If we are going to Provence again, Domaine de Rhodes would definitely be our choice.

Background about us: Both my husband and I are avid travelers. I do extensive research before traveling and use TripAdvisor for a majority of that research. I only hope to give you better insight into this B&B.

Arrival: We traveled from Annecy via GPS and did not have any problems finding this B&B. (Hint: Pre-load all your destinations into the GPS as favorites, it makes traveling MUCH easier). We walked into the B&B and waited a few minutes for Françoise to finish up her load of laundry. She was so welcoming and gave us all the information we needed to begin our stay.

Rooms: We spent one night in the Suite Degas and then spent the next three nights in the room Mistral. When we originally made our booking, it was only for 3 nights, so when we wanted to stay an extra night, Françoise was able to accommodate us in another room for a night. It gave us the opportunity to test out two different rooms!

Suite Degas: Quite spacious! It is located on the 2nd floor of the main house. The sitting room faces the back of the house and the bedroom is in the front of the house. The bathroom (two separate rooms) are located in between. The suite is wonderful! Comfortable beds, great views. This room does not have AC, so the windows provide the breeze. The hard part is keeping the windows and doors open without slamming shut. The sitting room door could use a door stop. :)

Room Mistral: Another HUGE space!! This room is located on the 2nd floor past the sitting room. It features an open bedroom with a sitting area. The bathroom is located up a spiral staircase. The bathroom features double vanities and a large shower. There is also an additional bed upstairs. This room features AC, so it was our preference. Both rooms are also beautifully decorated with items from their families.

Common areas: The whole house is amazing! The main house is a 12th century hunting lodge. Two other additions were completed over the centuries. There is a living room with TV to watch news. (No televisions in the rooms). Breakfast was either outside on the patio or in the dining room. Over the course of 4 nights, we were able to have breakfast outside once and the other three breakfasts were inside due to the Mistral winds.

The outside spaces are lovely! Lots of beautiful gardens and open areas. The patio features an outdoor kitchen with refrigerator, tea/coffee and items to make a quick dinner. We only wished we had stayed longer in order to appreciate this area. There are two or three cottages located around the open grassy area and pool. Depending on how long you plan to stay, you could either stay in the house or the cottages. The pool area was also very lovely. Not quite warm enough to swim though (late June).

Breakfast: Absolutely wonderful! Françoise makes her own yogurt, which you can add granola and fresh fruit (if desired). Plenty of bread options are provided (baguette, croissant, ect.). There is also hard boiled eggs, fresh jams and butter. Françoise and Paco provide a fresh fruit plate every day and juices. My husband did miss a meat option, but we understand that this is a French breakfast and we were able to embrace it.

Françoise and Paco: Lovely hosts! They love to help their guests with any questions and advice needed. We enjoyed sharing our daily plans with the other guests as well as Françoise and Paco. Extra maps were provided if needed and reservations were made prior to arrival via e-mail. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this wonderful B&B to anyone visiting the area.

Location: We picked this location for our exploration of Provence. It is located across the bridge on a separate island across from Avignon (about a 5-7 minute drive). We were able to explore Avignon, Pont du Gard, Nimes, Arles, Vaison-la-Romaine, Sault (Lavender), St. Remy and les beax. All of these locations were less than an hours drive. Sault was a bit farther. Here is how we spent our time: 1st day-Avignon, Pont du Gard, ended the day in Nimes. 2nd day- Vaison la Romaine (market), wine road (wine tasting), took a detour over Mount Ventoux and went on the hunt for lavender. 3rd day- morning in Arles, castle tour in Les Baux and ended in St. Remy. 4th day- headed over to Aix-en-Provence for a scheduled market tour....and then continued to Eze (French Riviera).

Pick this location if you have a car because the parking is ample and free! There are plenty of options on either side of the island for dinners.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are huge! Both the suite Degas and the Mistral room were immaculate. If AC is impor...

We were 2 couples travelling together and spent 3 nights at Domaine de Rhodes in September 2012. Francoise and Paco were delightful, gracious yet unintrusive hosts who made our stay memorable through sharing their amazing house and hospitality with us. If I closed my eyes and envisioned the perfect French rural house, Domaine de Rhodes would be my vision .The pebbled drive, shuttered windows and beautiful grounds had my friend and I doing a little dance of joy, then the interior had us stuck for words! It is exactly what an old hunting lodge should be -solid, grand, imposing yet sooo inviting. Opening the shutters of our room to overlook the grounds was a memorable moment. Breakfasts were delicious local fare which included homemade jams, fruit, cheese, yoghurt, fresh pastries and special daily treats baked by Francoise served on incredible tableware which changed daily. We stocked up on delicious local produce and wine which we enjoyed outside in the evenings along with fellow travellers from around the world who were also bewitched by this incredible setting. Magnifique!!
