Others have praised Domaine de Rhodes and we join them. If there was an ideal model of the perfect host and hostess of a B & B, Francoise and Paco would be IT. They provided the finest breakfasts in all of our 3 1/2 week stay in Province and Paris. Breakfast with the multi-national guests was lively, informative and a highlight of our day. Our room was roomy, clean and charming with a wonderful view overlooking the front gardens. Just note that as it is located on an island on the Rhone, driving to dinner is necessary. If you're coming to Avignon, this is the place to stay.

We stayed for two weeks in the small but perfect cottage called Studio Renoir. We had the best France holiday ever thanks to Francoise and Paco who are lovely hosts. The location is quiet - on a small island off central Avignon - and convenient for exploring Provence.

Our cottage was fully equipped with a stove, fridge, microwave and all of the necessary plates, glasses and cutlery etc. It was quiet and spotlessly clean and the aircon worked perfectly. Being a bit of a 'princess and the petit pois' and liking a softer mattress, I had a challenging time sleeping on the ultra hard mattress (I hasten to add that this is not unlike other places I have stayed in Europe). Francoise and Paco did their best to help out and I eventually appropriated our outdoor chair cushions and found this an excellent solution.

We had a small television in our room and we did watch it on occasion as the Olympics were on, but also enjoyed going into the main lounge and watching more coverage on the television or on our computer - no wifi in our cottage, but we didn't mind. We met other Brits who couldn't bear to miss watching Andy Murray win a gold medal.

We were travelling with our Canadian friends who have two small children. They stayed in the beautiful and well appointed Cezanne apartment and we cooked on the electric BBQ and ate sitting on their terrace many nights. On the days where we were all just too tired to go out, we sat by the swimming pool and relaxed. Francoise and Paco went out of their way to make all of us feel welcome and I can confidently say that Domaine de Rhodes is very child friendly.

There is so much to recommend here at Domaine de Rhodes. We loved our cottage, the pool and grounds, Francoise, Paco and the rest of the staff, the breakfasts where we met other people from all over the world and the accessibility of the rest of Provence. I recommend Domaine de Rhodes without reservation.

Room Tip: The cottages and Apartment Cezanne are air conditioned.

Domaine de Rhodes is a former hunting lodge that has been converted by its owners into a great small hotel. It is located on an island in the middle of the Rhone river across from Avignon. (Finding the hotel the first time could be a challenge without a GPS.) Our room was large and well decorated with family antiques - with a view of the garden and expansive grounds. The owners, Francoise and Paco are terrific. Francoise fixed something special (pastry or a fruit dish) for every breakfast. And, they were extremely helpful in recommending side trips and restaurants. The hotel is about 10 minutes by car from Avignon - which is great. There is very little parking available in Avignon - but there is a park and ride just across the river from the city. This is a great place to use as a base for touring Provence - an easy drive from most of the area attractions. It is an equally great place if you just want to hang out and enjoy the beauty of the grounds.

We had a wonderful stay at Domaine de Rhodes! We loved the room - Delacroix; found the hospitality to be outstanding and enjoyed the gorgeous rural setting. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and designed with particular attention to detail -beautiful soft bedspread, comfortable linens, relaxing sitting area, claw foot bath tub with L'Occitane bath products. The rural setting of Barthelasse island was absolutely lovely as well (a car is highly recommended). Most memorable, however, was Francoise and Paco's gracious hospitality. They greeted us each morning with warm smiles, a beautiful spread of fresh baked good, home-made jams, delicious yogurt and cheese along with reviving coffee or tea. They genuinely enjoy chatting with their guests, and are extremely helpful while respectful at the same time. They provided several excellent recommendations of what to see and do in the area. We had a truly lovely experience at Domaine de Rhodes; I just wish we could have stayed longer.

We recently stayed at Domaine de Rhodes as a central location for our road trips through Provence. This was a convenient location for our excursions and was a pleasant place of its own merit. It is a 5-10 min drive to Avignon (car & GPS necessary) and easy access to roads into the other towns and villages. There are several restaurants and shops in Avignon worth visiting, be aware that many are closed on Sunday & Monday. If you plan to stay in the main B&B house: the house is lovely inside & out. The grounds are beautiful for a stroll, or to relax in the sun, and the pool area was not large but was sufficient (we didn't swim just looked). The owners are extremely competent at managing their guests and ensuring a welcoming environment for all. Especially impressive was their willingness to assist guests with travel tips, restaurant reservations, and even share a bottle of wine with everyone in the lounge for a bit of socializing in the evening. They really know what they are doing. If you are considering staying in a cottage, read on for the pros & cons: We opted for a cottage for extra privacy. The cottage had been redecorated since the time of their website photos, but was listed as Cottage Monet. It was bright, welcoming, and studio style with a kitchenette & heating/AC. The price you pay for extra privacy is lack of wifi in your cabin, and no soap or shampoo in your bathroom. Our cottage was the furthest from the main house, which was peaceful, but inconvenient as there was no walkway and after a rain we got mud on our shoes and pants-legs for the remainder of our stay, not to mention rolling our spinner suitcase through the mud when leaving. The kitchenette had a sink, range-top, oven, refrigerator, electric kettle, toaster, microwave, dishes, cutlery, and (most important) a corkscrew. We were pleased to find some tea and coffee there. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon to find everything closed, but found a convenience store to get us through until Monday when the SPAR grocery (in Avignon) opened to supply ourselves with groceries and other necessities. There was a little table for two, and a small desk with a chair and travel guides. (There is no television, not that you will need one.) A curtain hung as a divider between the dining area and the sleeping area. The bed was comfortable enough by European standards, although the bed was a bit short for us & we are not very tall people. The bathroom was simple but functional with a shower stall, single sink, and toilet. We did enjoy our privacy, which is a special luxury for city or suburban dwellers. It was wonderful waking to sunshine in the window and the songs of birds, then having coffee and warm croissants (from a local bakery) before having to get dressed and be presentable. We also enjoyed watching the sunset over the field in front of our cabin - there is a wonderfully rural feel for such a central spot. We would love to return to Domaine de Rhodes. I can't decide if it is best to stay in the house or a cabin, but I definitely recommend staying at Domaine de Rhodes.

Dear guests,
Thank you for taking the time to send us your comments about our Domain.
We are sorry for the inconvenient that you had with the rain. We are sensitive to your observations and look close rentals cottages in the end of October. (we would avoid the rainy season)
You had rent a cottage. Rental houses and B & Bs do not have the same services. In rental are not included: Breakfast, daily cleaning, shower products. You are required to clean at end of stay or request a housekeeper. The price is less expensive too.
We will try to set up WIFI in the cottages, thank for your help.
Our only desire is that our guests have a good time together and enjoy our region as much as we.
Best regards and sorry for our poor English language.

The only problem with this charming 16th century farmhouse is that it may tempt you not to explore Provence. Françoise and Paco are charming and very helpful, their breakfasts are amazing, their English is good, the house is lovely, and the rooms are large and comfortable, and decorated attractively. I only wish we'd stayed longer.

We stayed 6 nights in a lovingly restored hunting lodge on the Isle de Barthelasse in October. Our hosts, Francoise and Paco, were very gracious and accommodating. The breakfasts were wonderful - cereals, granola, flaky croissants & other pastries, fresh fruit, cheese, homemade fruit preserves, homemade yogurt, juices and excellent coffee & tea. The advice on travel in the area, the interest of the hosts in our plans for the day, the feeling of camaraderie they created, the luxurious rooms and the peaceful surroundings all made this an enjoyable place to stay.

They have done a wonderful job of restoring this old lodge, even using some of the antiques handed down to Francoise by her family.

We chose to stay in the Vilar room, very spacious and luxurious, at the top of a spiral staircase. It had air conditioning, a sitting room, lovely views out over the property and a modern bathroom that was supplied with L'Occitaine products, a large bathtub, a modern tiled shower with a rain shower head, a towel warmer and crystal chandeliers! Our linens, both bed and bathroom, were changed daily! And, when I asked about doing laundry somewhere in the area, Francoise did it for us and did not even charge for that service. She said she did it out of lover for her guests!

You will need a car to tour the area of Provence and a GPS is a must. In fact, you probably will not find the Domaine without a GPS; so many small roads and lanes. But, once you find it, "ooh la la"!

Thank you, Francoise and Paco, welcoming us to your home and making our first visit to Provence so enjoyable! We hope to come back very soon.
