full of olde world Miss Marple charm, a studied carelessness about the way the gardens were laid out . Highly recommended!

Ten of us including my wife, my two children, my in-laws and my brother-in-law and his family, stayed at this hotel, just outside Arles, for four nights. I had read up on it on Trip Advisor after my sister-in-law had made the booking and I have to say that most of the criticism's made by other travellers were correct.

The owner has to be one of the most miserable and unwelcoming 'hosts' that I have ever come across travelling through the South of France over the past twenty years. Is it too much to ask for just a smile once in a while!!! And oh! by the way, the same could apply to his chain smoking wife and dour and scruffy father who shambled around as the disheveled hotel odd job man. Considering how much our large booking would generate finacially, I would have thought that a more pleasant approach would have been merited.

On top of that, cover yourself with a bucket of mosquito repelent if you choose to eat al-fresco in the evening - the place was swarming with the little buggers.

The self-service breakfast was atypically French comprising the usual croissant, French bread and anorexic wafer slim slices of ham, processed Emmenthal cheese and orange juice made from concentrate.

It looked as though the last time the bedrooms had been decorated, Edith Piaf had just died!

In its favour, the food at dinner was above par as was the small wine list, the pool area worked for the kids and the semi-rural location (albeit adjacent to what looked like a stud-farm) was attractive.

Feniere, Gérant at Auberge du Mas de la Feniere, responded to this reviewResponded August 18, 2010

Dear Sir,
Thank you for this opinion, but you are not yourself free from all faults… First of all the cries of Madam with you arrived on the parking! You disturbed the peace of our hosts! And still, if it was only the first day … But apparently Madam cannot express herself that by screaming at you …
Appararently you have a family problem. I understand your sourness, but from there to defer us the fault… Secondly, your children! The first evening: waterings open to bottom in the garden, the broken toilets, spread toilet paper on the ground, the sinks which overflowed, the torn off electrical outlets of the wall, etc… Real little angels…
How, under these conditions, would you want us to be “welcoming”? You did not respect us, nor the other customers of the hotel…
Concerning the wine list. There I acknowledge that I do not understand… You find it “small”? Did you look at it? More than 60 different wines of great quality…
The decoration of the hotel was remade at the end of 2008… If that does not correspond to your tastes, I can’t help it. Some people like it … You are not the universal customer!
Concerning the chain smoking woman. It is about my mother… And at least, she does not spend her days sceaming like your wife! And my father was somewhat irritated to repair with all day what your little angels had broken…
Then your ideas on a great booking are not worth anything… Especially if we withdraw what you deteriorated and embarrassment that you caused to the other customers!
Thank you on the other hand with your beautiful parents in law who were really adorable…
Strange also your opinion which is contrary to the other opinion… Is it that other people which badly judged or simply you who did everything to be unpleasant?

We stayed here 3 nights in September. It's a good value base for visiting Arles, Les Baux de Provence, St Remy, etc etc. There was always a parking space available.

The owner/manager who greeted us was not overwhelmingly friendly but we did receive a smile a bit later.

Our room was on the ground floor, small and clean but comfortable. We were very pleased to see a fixed insect screen over the window - being so near to the Camargue there would obviously be a mosquito problem at night without this screen. There was air conditioning.

We were booked in on half board. The 3 course dinner was a no-choice affair and generally good but robust local cuisine, eg provencal lamb and beans. If there's something you can't eat you just have to tell them in the morning and an alternative will be offered. Service in the restaurant was friendly and speedy. The restaurant was always full and had a buzzy atmosphere. It's a charming room with a chequered floor and prettily laid tables.

Breakfast was OK but lacking extras like freshly squeezed orange juice.

All in all, we felt it was a good place where the staff worked hard to give guests value for money. And as mentioned, it's an inexpensive base for sightseeing in this beautiful area.

We are staying right now in the hotel with our 7 year old daughter. So far everything has been pleasant and the room is spacious. Baths have strong water pressure, hot water, stocked toilettries to the max and the location is just what we wanted....not in town where it can get hectic. We have a car and though as with the previous review, we were also told not to park out front even when we were just dropping off luggage..We did see a couple of cars parked there at nightime when we returned and wondered if it's the owner's. The parking lot does get full at night as I was told that the hotel is popular with locals too for eating.
We haven't tried the meals yet so I can't comment but they did give us our room earlier than the 3 pm. check-in time since we had appointments to catch in town. So kudos to the front desk gentleman and the smiling asian lady that greeted us upon arrival. I am not aware of the previous reviewer's comment on the "please do not destroy anything" observation but I guess it would be apply in any hotel.
The bed is not as soft nor the pillows as fluffly but since it's a "Mas" we can deal with it and they do have a bunch of pillows in the room anyway.
We may try the breakfast tomorrow but a great find to eat in Arles is a place near the Arena called Le Cilantro. Awesome food!

Hello,
Concerning the car park, it is true that we are forced to ask to park you on the back... The deliverers and the collect of garbage threatening us not to drive over any more if cars are parked in the front (since they can't make a U turn to drive away) ... Concerning cars parked in front of evening, I suppose it was from people at the restaurant this evening and who leave at about 11:00 pm (no deliveries at this time!). The cars of the owner and the staff are, of course, parked in the back.
Best regards.

We stayed here for one night in April 2008 with our 6 year old son as we wanted to be within reasonable distance of Nimes airport for our flight the next day.

The hotel is well located if you do not want to stay in Arles itself. It is a Logis de France and has its own individual character.

But in my opinion other reviews have overstated its charms. It is not a country hotel, nor could it really be described as quaint. It is a functional, slightly quirky, reasonably priced, out of town small hotel.

Our family room did what it said on the tin - there were beds but not much by way of additional comforts such as chairs. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was dimly lit but OK.

The food was of a generally good standard, nice foie gras with fig jam, chewy lamb, desserts a bit uninteresting. The DIY breakfast buffet was efficient, but lacked any personal touch - the same could be said of the staff.

We particularly did not appreciate who we presume to be the owner complaining at us about parking our car at the front of the hotel while we offloaded our luggage. It was also one of those places where they feel the need to have notices in the room telling you that you can be ejected from the hotel if you behave badly and that you will have to pay for anything that you "destroy".
Not very quaint at all.

And the smell of sewage outside the hotel may have been seasonal, but worth noting.

Of the hotels we visited on this trip, this is the only one that will not be on our "must return" list.

This might quite possibly be the cutest hotel I've stayed in. It's literally this huge farmhouse/hotel a few miles outside of Arles, decorated Provence-style. Breakfast had the best granola I've tasted. Rooms are quite comfortable and very clean. The surroundings were amazing - farm fields forever! I won't stay anywhere else if I'm in Provence, this is the place to be.

My husband and I stayed a few nights at this hotel back in July of 2007. Very quaint hotel. We found the owner very friendly and he spoke english very well. All in all a very good experience except be forwarned that you need a car! it's a little off the beaten path to say the least! My husband and I were debating whether to bother with a car rental and we were definitely glad we did. We used that hotel as a base for our excursions and it worked out very well!

We only ate at the hotel restaurant one night but it was fabulous! Well worth the $$! and it was really nice eating outside in the courtyard.

My only negative comments would be that the pool isn't as nice as it seems in the pic shown here and we were located on the main floor and we found the room above us very noisy (tres squeaky floors!) but other than that the rooms were a fair size, clean and you can't beat free parking! :)
