“a hidden gem”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

We stayed at Hotel Particulier during our France trip last summer. After having been misguided by our GPS for a bit we finely found this hidden gem of a hotel! Once the big wooden door opens to welcome you into this hotel you don't want to leave anymore. We stayed in a big room with view over the courtyard and pool. The decor was simple and tasteful, a well executed renovation of an old "hotel particulier'. The small pool was perfect for a short dip to cool off after a walk through this wonderful city. Service at the pool was very nice and attentive, we enjoyed small details such as little flowers on the silver trays used to bring the drinks. The receptionists were very helpful finding restaurants and booking tables as well as giving tips on excursions around Arles. Breakfast was delicious and served outside in the courtyard by the pool. The bar was very hip and we loved the black and white artsy photos. There is a spa in the hotel too which we didn't visit so I can't say anything about. All in all we had a great stay and I can highly recommend this hotel for couples wanting to have a quiet and luxurious retreat while visiting Arles.

This is one of the nicest hotels we ever stayed at. Hidden behind an old garden wall in a tiny street in the old town, it comprises a couple of old villas beautifully restored and maintained. We were welcomed with tea and croissants and then settled into our spacious and tastefully furnished suite (with a view of the garden). It really felt like you were spending a few days with friends - every room service item was beautifully decorated with a sprig of flowers or herbs, tea accompanied by marvellous sweets. The room was absolutely quiet. Breakfast is served in a large room with a fireplace - and not the usual buffet but individual items brought to your table, everything tasty and again nicely decorated. Service was efficient and unobtrusive. Although this was early October, the weather was warm enough for us to sit in the beautiful garden and enjoy afternoon tea. The location is of course great as well. Highly recommended!

Our room, a junior suite, was charming and comfortable, with an all white sitting room and a terrace with comfortable furniture outside. All the furntiture is white. it is indeed an oasis in a city that is not always beautiful. It was a little creepy walking to dinner on quiet, deserted city streets, but we never had a problem. The staff was lovely and helpful. It does have its quirks - The toilet was a little high, and the shower was a little hard to navigate, but we found this part of its charm. It was a rather a big deal to order a cocktail in the evening, but they managed. They even set up a fire and put on soft music in one of the mansion's common rooms when it turned chilly. They had very good restaurant suggestions, too. I'd definitely go back.

As its name says it is a very particular hotel situated a few blocks from Arles main attractions. As a previous private house it has a rather peculiar disposition, that we found very nice. Arles does not seem to have many fine hotels so this one stands out. Main positive points: high quality products ( Hermés toiletries ), very good standards, the restaurant indication was excellent. Less positive: though the breakfast service kept the hotel standard ( for instance, butter from Iserie etc. ) it might have had more options, since sometimes the eyes are more demanding than the stomach.

Room Tip: Mind the small streets near the hotel.

We loved every second of our stay. The hotel is in a quiet court yard in the town centre, close to all the museums and restaurants.
We had a great, modern room and the staff were very nice and friendly.
We can recommend this hotel to everyone.

As you drive through the small back streets of Arles you wonder what on earth you are going to arrive at. You then pull up at a shiny black door and a wonderful oasis exists behind. This is an old nobleman's home and it has been tastefully decorated to marry the modern with the old. Our room on the first floor was very nice although the bathroom was incredibly strange. The basin was very tall to reach into and stepping into the bath (with shower) would have been very difficult for someone who was not sprightly or slim! The gardens are beautifully wild and there is a pool to take a dip in. Sun loungers provide a respite from the hot afternoon sun. It is a real shame there is no restaurant because this would make a big difference in recommending this hotel. You have to walk into the main part of Arles to eat or drive out. When we checked out we commented that our room had only been turned down 1 night out of 3, the owner apologies profusely but this is just not good enough for the price being charged.

The hotel is awkwardly situated away from most of the interesting parts of Arles. Having said that, it would have been fine if it was fabulous. The restaurant has closed down so you can no longer stay in for dinner or lounge around for lunch. The housekeeping service is poor and rooms are not kept clean. The main bus boy tries very hard, a local who just can't do it all on his own. It is a highly priced hotel with declining standards. Avoid it.
