“Beautiful place, excellent food”
Reviewed April 7, 2009

I stayed here for one night only, and it was a beautiful, unique place. The grounds are gorgeous, the service excellent and the food superb. There was one glitch. I had booked the place to eat at the restaurant, which I had heard was excellent. I made my reservation for a dinner at the time of the booking, and it was confirmed. Unfortunately, I was never told that the restaurant had decided to close that particular night because of a holiday, so I showed up at the hotel thinking that I was going to have an exquisite dinner. Sadly, that wasn't going to happen, and we were leaving the next day. I was so upset! But they tried to offer suggestions of restaurants nearby. Unfortunately, there isn't much of anything nearby, so we had to go back to Arles to eat dinner that night. At first I didn't think they were being very accommodating because they didn't automatically say that they would let us have dinner at their place the next night. They said they would have to check with the chef, which took all day until we had an answer. It was a little strange, but then they were very nice about it. So, we hung around the area the next day, then went back for dinner, then afterwards continued with our trip. Although our plans were a little messed up because of that, I was glad they comped us a few things and gave us a little gift.

The breakfasts here are sublime! And sitting in the kitchen was so lovely. I wish we could've stayed here longer. It's definitely a place to visit if you're in the area.

We stayed there for one night in September and whilst the rooms were lovely and the dinner was great, be warned, they charge you for everything!

The hotel grounds are huge and very well kept and the owners are lovely and staff are very helpful and friendly. If you don't mind splurging and are not on a budget, I would definitely recommend this place and probably not if you do have a budget. I personally didn't think it was worth the price and hence probably won't go again, but i don't regret having tried it out.

What a joy to find such a fantastic place which suited us perfectly.
We stayed there on the last three nights of our fortnight's holiday and it was a glorious end to the holiday in a stylish and refined hotel very professionally run where the guest most certainly comes first.
The service was inobtrusive, charming ,sensitive and perfect in all respcts. The food was out of this world with beautifully presented and delicately flavoured cuisine. It was fascinating to watch the main dishes being prepared in the dining room by a top quality-chef - a major conversation piece! Beautiful table linen, cutlery and glass completed the picture. French cuisine and service at its best.
Mme Bon visited the guests in the restaurant most evenings, had a talk with each table and we thought this was terrific.
The bedroom , bathroom and en-suite shower room lived up to expectations and were exactly as shown on the Hotel's internet site. The room was fabulous, the bed was large and comfortble and what a fantastic touch to come up to the room after dinner to find the bed corners turned down and the shower re-cleaned and shower glass polished after our use prior to dinner. We loved the bed linen and although we paid a little more for bedroom no 8 with its 3 beams we felt it was worth it.
All in all, one of the best hotels we have stayed in with just those extra touches that make a place memorable and not out of this world price-wise; indeed worth every penny to find such a gem with such style, cuisine and service.

We have just returned from a totally perfect week at the Mas de Peint.
We are already planning a return- and would exhort fellow travellers to visit.
The hotel itself is glorious- v.traditional decor of great quality, very very comfortable bedrooms and glamorous bathrooms with good products. The linens etc are all of superlative quality.
The Pool is terrific and a good size, a great place for a long languid lunch.
THe food really was utterly exceptional- the chef has completed 7 years with Alain Ducasse and it was very evident in the beauty of the dishes and the glorious flavours.
We spent the days out birdwatching, riding and exploring the barren charms of the salt pans, or on the beach, and returned to a wonderful 4 course dinner in the netted terrace by candlelight.
THe homely atmosphere was enhanced by the family dog and the overwhelming feeling that this was a home, which had been done with much love.
We cant wait to return.

We stayed here with our 6 year old for one night in March 2008. It was just as charming as other reviewers have said and equally welcoming of our son. The location is perfect for those who want to be in the true Camargue. For birdwatchers like ourselves, there are many excellent locations nearby.

The Mas is not just a hotel but a whole business enterprise, growing amongst other things its own rice and providing a wide range of tourist activities.

The old house is a delight and the reception rooms exude class. The reception desk was eventually welcoming, though we arrived in the middle of a long phone call which evidently could not be cut short.

Our triple room was not huge but was thoughtfully and comfortably laid out, and the mezzanine bathroom was a novelty, immense and delightful in every way. Beds felt very luxuriant.

But the best part of all was the dining experience. We ate in the kitchen (unmissable) and it was fascinating to watch the chef create our dishes as we dined. Up to 10 minutes before we sat down, there was not even a menu as the chef had not decided what to cook! There was an evident focus on fresh local produce. We enjoyed a pumpkin soup "amuse gueule", then white asparagus cooked three different ways in a lemon sauce with slivers of truffle, a main local fish dish, then cheese, and finally pineapple "reduction" with coconut icecream. A superb wine list provided a Costieres de Nimes from a vineyard we had passed by earlier in the day.

The meal was made more special by friendly visits from the gracious owner (Mme Lucille Bon) and the chef (handshakes all round).

Our son is not a great fan of rice so looked a bit dismayed when his chicken arrived with rice from the Mas itself. Of course, he loved it and ate every bit.

Breakfast was an equal delight, beautiful fresh strawberries with freshly made yoghurt, even bacon and eggs for our son!

We would definitely return again. It is expensive but some hotels are worth it and others aren't - Mas de Peint is.

This is a wonderful, relaxing retreat. Ideal for all those looking for a total get away. Serene. Unpretenious. Beautifully decorated. Homely yet chic manor farm. Luxury.

For such a `nice' hotel, it was surprisingly good for children too!

Dinner was delicious and good quality and value. Jacques and Lucille came to see the guests every night for a chat. We had dinner both on the terrace and in the charming kitchen dining room, which was a wonderful experience having the chef cook the dinner on the giant aga using local ingredients in front of us.

The bedroom was romantic rustic charm, without being chinzy. Bed was comfortable and the bathroom superb - simple, elegant and discreetly luxurious. Room service great.

Enjoy relaxation by the lovely pool - set in manicured gardens. Nice loungers, complimentary towels, and discreet showers.

The owners are happy to involve you in the activities on their bull farm as available, including bull branding. You can also take (paid) horseriding.

We spent 3 days here in late August 07 and now I see what the reviews were talking about. The most important thing is the balance - somewhere between rustic charm and left bank chic, with a touch of 5 star luxury thrown in for good measure.

We had dinner on the (thankfully mosquito-netted) terrace two nights out of three and the food was exceptional for 55 euros per person. Simple local flavours, combined and presented beautifully - bull steaks, local fish, roasted provencale vegetables, tarte tatin with Camargue fleurs de sel etc. And personal visits from Jacques and his wife on both occasions.

The bedroom was quite small and dark but the bed was huge and the bathroom superb - again, simple, tasteful and verging on luxurious.

The pool is another good feature, with nice loungers and towels, and the water cool enough to take the edge off the Camargue sun but not so much as to cause cardiac problems.

We hope to go back when the bank balance has recovered.
