“Check for renovations”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

We'd paid our entrance before we glanced through the entrance to the cloisters and saw there were extensive renovations happening - noise, dust, scaffolding, etc - we had seen no notice about these, it was not mentioned at the office and the fee was not discounted. Although it was perfectly clear to the officer that we had not set a foot inside, we were insistently refused any refund. Avoid.

“The arch bears close examination”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

When we first walked by this small church a funeral was in progress. We did not tarry. But we returned to examine the very detailed stone carvings on the archway around the entry doors. Scenes of stony ecstasy and suffering are densely joined in unique ways. The scene of purgatory or hell might give pause to the religiously inclined.

“Gothic parish church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

This is a gothic church on the Piazza republica in Arles. The doorway is quite lovely, and the interior is fairly dark and candlelit. Pay to light the reliquaries, as they are quite interesting.

“Impressive facade!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

We discovered Eglise St-Trophime on an evening stroll through the old part of Arles. Although we were not able to enter the church because of the late hour, we were very impressed with the exterior. The delicately carved and detailed stonework and massive wooden doors overlaid with ornamental ironwork was beautiful to behold. It made us even more curious to see inside! A "must see" when in oldtown Arles!

“Beautiful church in square in Arles”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2013

This is one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Provence. There are huge arches, tapestries and statues and it's very old. Worth a stop when in Arles. Also a neat Egyptian obelisk with a fountain right outside the church.
