We ended up in this restaurant, because either the other adjacent restaurants were full or we did not like the menus. The food and service were excellent. The menu was varied and there were plenty of options. In fact it was so good we went back on our second and the last night of our time in Arles. We entirely agree with the comments made by ROberta60

We dined at L'Escaladou because we couldn't get in Le Criquet next door and thought it looked OK. The food was average but there was lots of it - way too much in our opinion. We were seated upstairs in the corner away from the windows and it was hot, really hot. There was a wall A/C unit but it wasn't on and, even when asked, the staff wouldn't put it on. There are much better restaurants in Arles.

We stopped here on the recommendation of a frequent diner but were disappointed. The soup of Marseilles was dark and fishy with a garlic flavored orange paste to complement it along with cheese and toasted dry bread. For a first course and for its unpalatable properties, there was too much in the serving bowl but we had to finish it to get the attention of the wait staff indicating that we were ready for the next course.

While waiting we chatted with the people and the next table and admired from afar the basket of bread that they did not eat. Our main courses arrived, rabbit in a tomato sauce with a side of summer squash for me and squid and potatoes in a yellow sauce for my partner. Nothing was remarkable except for the fact that we couldn't get the wait staff to stop long enough to bring us bread. Notably they were working very hard to get through a tiny space and serve their customers.

When the bread finally came after we had finished the course, it was dry on the exposed cut side making us wonder whose table(s) it had visited before it was served to us. It must have been cut for several hours to be that dry.

The meal included dessert and when we asked for sorbet, mango was offered. It came to our table with a frosty coating as if it had been exposed to air in the freezer for quite some time before it was scooped up for us. At least it looked more palatable that the other desserts that we saw delivered to nearby tables.

When the bill came and we offered our credit card, the wait staff pointed to a cardboard sign up near the ceiling half way back in the room on which CB was written and then lined through to indicate no credit cards were accepted. Too bad we didn't have enough cash to pay for the meal. Luckily we knew someone else who was dining there and borrowed some money from them or we would still be washing dishes!
