“The dog was friendly.”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

I feel bad about rating this place as a restaurant since it should probably be in the attractions category. We ordered coffees and shared a small pastry. The coffee was okay and so was the pastry. It was a little pricey, but hey, this place still sort of looks like the painting. There are clean restrooms upstairs but the lights are on a timer so beware. An earlier reviewer commented on all the tourists taking photos...I apologize. Since this place is on a main tourist artery it wouldn't hurt to stop and take a photo. Heck, get a coffee and use the facilities while you have the chance. We did have to wait for just a bit to pay our bill while the owner took her dog to the street for a potty break.

“Good if you don't mind being photographed!”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

We only had drinks here so I can't comment on the food but the service was good and there was no pressure to drink and go. Sat and read one afternoon with a glass of beer without being bothered. As it is a famous Van Gogh painting there are LOTS of tourists taking photographs so you have to be aware that you're going to be appearing in lots of photos mainly in the USA & Japan. If that troubles you sit elsewhere!
There is a bit of a premium on the price of of your drink, but you are in an iconic spot so it's to be expected and it's not too expensive.

“Stay away”

Yeah, famous place if you're around. Take a pic but think twice before you decide to order some food. The dining is dreadful.

If you are a tourist and want to spend 6.50 euro for a diet coke, this place is for you! Be aware of untruthful practices.

“Don't eat at this restaurant.”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

We recently travelled extensively in France for two weeks. Had great experiences with all the hotels, B & B's and most of the restaurants. Our WORST EXPERIENCE was this place Cafe La Nuit.

We were longing to have Paella so we went to this place. First of all the waiter was downright abonoxious.
When we sat down and asked to see the menu he rudely told us that first we had to order our drinks, or else he would not bring the menu!!!!

I was hopping mad and would have got up and walked out but we were six of us and i did not want to make a scene as the rest of the family hate that. So we ordered the drinks and the waiter brought the menu and we ordered the Paella. IT WAS JUST AWFUL. The rice was floating in oil, the chicken was overcooked and dry and the rice was like eating bullets.

The next day we were walking past and were horrified to see that they start making the Paella in the afternoon, There were flies sitting on it and is it any wonder the rice was hard and the chicken overcooked???? It sits there all day and dries out.

The waiter with pride told me he was from Barcelona - i wanted to tell him that if this was his attitude, he certainly was not helping with tourism for his country. We now certainly don't want to go to Spain as we have already had bad experiences in Madrid with taxi drivers!!!!
