I live in Aix-en-Provence and have eaten many times at this wonderful small intimate restaurant with family and friends. There has always been a warm welcome, dynamic staff and wonderful tasting and looking food. The staff go out of their way to make sure you are happy with the food, wine and service.
I will continue to support this great find!

My husband and I ended up here by chance and were so happy we did! The energetic owner was more than happy to translate parts of the menu we didn't understand and help us each choose exactly what we wanted - slow roasted lamb for my husband and fire roasted prawns on risotto for me. We also shared a super tasty appetizer and seasonal fruit inspired tiramisu for dessert and absolutely cleaned our plates (something neither of is typically do). My only regret is not taking pictures of the food to post.

It's because almost everyone is a local. And they love the place as much as we do. Sure, it was a long walk from Hotel Le Pigonnet, and yes, it was hard to find, but we'd do it all over again.

There are a few tables indoors, but sit in the plaza, right next to the beautiful fountain that's lit just right at night.

The owner is the waiter and he patiently went over the entire menu. And what a menu! We started with mushroom soup with thin slicers of foie gras melting on top. It was served in an sculptural arched bowl at just the right temperature. The intensity of flavors explodes in your mouth.

The entree was succulent cod on top of soupy risotto with mussels. My wife has tender medallions of pork on rattouille, served on top of a piece of toast, which soaked up the pork jus.

Desserts: Warm peach crumble with vanilla ice cream...and a light raspberry smoothie.

Put on your walking shoes. It's worth it.

We had arrived in Aix late on the last weekend in August and all the restaurants were packed (and closing). One of the other restaurants told us to check out L'Incontournable. It too was full, beautifully located in a courtyard by a fountain. The co-owner was so nice, he told us to come back in 30 minutes and he will seat us. We were so tired we came back in 15 minutes where he gave us each a lovely glass of rose' while we sat by the fountain... and wouldn't charge us for it! If that weren't enough the food was excellent and the waitress that helped us was so nice telling us about some local things to do and see. Great food, not over priced, wonderful service and completely non-pretentious. Go here if you are lucky enough to be in Aix!

The food is beautifully presented, tastes good and the service is very good. However just around the corner is L'alcôve and I would urge you to try them first.
