we traipsed out here one day as it's on the edge of town and paid our entry ticket only to find it's essentially just around four rooms with some nice ceramics exhibited in there. the house itself is very small so not really worth the effort

The Pavillon de Vendome is a fine building from the outside, but inside it would be a bit disappointing were it not for the temporary Atelier Buffile exhibition of fabulous ceramics dating back over 70 years; plates, vases, jugs in quirky designs and vivid colours as well as stylish black and white. Lovely.

Although my partner and I have been to Aix many times, we only just discovered Pavillon de Vendome. According to Wikipedia, the house was "commissioned by Louis, Duke of Vendôme (1612-1669) as a place where he could take his lover, Lucrèce de Forbin Solliès." It changed hands over the years and was eventually gifted to the city of Aix by the last owner. Following an impressive restoration that appears to be ongoing, the house is open to the public and allows visitors a close up view of a country home. Nearly all of the rooms offer a very cool interactive program that provides detailed information regarding some of the more historical appointments throughout. The gardens are breathtaking -- mind you, we were there before it was in full bloom....I can only imagine. I had the great good luck to meet the primary gardener and compliment him on his work. Finally, treat yourself to lunch at the restaurant....outside if the weather permits. That meal stands among one of our most memorable during all of our visits to Provence.

I like this place. It is a discovery! The gardens are beautiful, the architecture is amazing, turning the perfect scenery for shows!

A beautiful 17th century house set in a lovely garden built by Louis de Mercoeur, Duc de Vendome, as a hideaway to carry on a love affair with Lucrece de-Forbin Sollies. Lucky girl - certainly an extravagant place for a bit of nooky!

Beautifully proportioned (the house, not the girl!) with stunning architecture and a lovely staircase. Most of the rooms are much as they would have been in the 18th century.

A fascinating place to visit, but sadly the ambience was partly spoiled by an exhibition of modern art, totally out of place, in several rooms.
