We ate at this restaurant down the street from one that was our first choice but was booked. That turned out to be fortunate. This was our best meal in 2 weeks in Aix. We chose the 28 euro prix fixe menu. The salad was large enough to be a main course and had fresh greens, smoked duck and bacon and a to die for warm goat cheese on toast. I normally skip the bread but had 3 pieces here, it was exceptional. We had a main course of steak with peppercorn sauce that was probably average but the accompanying potatoes au gratin were great. Dessert was creme brûlée for me and chocolate duo for my husband. Service was a one man show but the most attentive we've had, and he had multiple trips up a spiral staircase. We ate in a charming cave with classic American jazz playing. The meal was topped off by an on the house digestif. A great experience!

Good value set menu and charming staff in a beautiful town. Really enjoyed the set menu and keenly priced wines. Recommend.

For 20 euros for the menu I was very impressed: for entrée I had a delicious roasted aubergine/goat's cheese/tomato sauce salad type thing (I have attached a photo) and for the main I was recommended the roast duck which came with generous portions of gratin dauphinoise and something else, I can't remember. the duck was cooked to perfection and by this point I was very full. Still made it through dessert: my first creme brulée of the year; despite not having much creme brulée expertise it was delicious nonetheless. Also finished my aunt's tarte tatin which was slightly mushy but still tasted good, and by that point I was satisfactorily merry from the decent wine. I probably ate too much but I would love to go again, the chef/waiter was incredibly friendly and we had a nice chat with him and other guests at the end. Only slight complaint was that portions were brought out a bit too quickly one after the other, without much time for breathing! Oh and the restaurant itself was underground and had a very "wine-cellar" type feel to it, but livened up by retro posters and vintage decor
