I first discovered Le Comté d'Aix in 2006, on my first trip to the city. The food was really good, and priced very reasonably--but there was no one in the restaurant!! When I asked the owner why, he said it was because they don't have a street-terrace like some other nearby places, and during the summer everyone wants to sit outside.
Take my word for it, even in the summer, THIS PLACE IS TOTALLY WORTH VISITING, regardless of the outdoor seating issue. Since that first visit, the ownership has changed, but the standards of the food have not. The new owners freshened up the interior decor, which is still French/rustic, and it is a very comfortable space. The food is the real star here though--as it should be!! The current chef deftly combines traditional French/Provencal dishes with just enough of a creative twist to keep things interesting.
On my most recent visit, for example, one of the dessert choices was a mousse flavored like the famous Calissons d'Aix candy (and obviously had some incorporated directly in it). It was excellent!! I also enjoyed very much the maigret de canard, cooked with apples and other flavors and presented beautifully on the plate, with a selection of vegetable sides that were each as thoughtfully prepared and presented as the main dish.
With a prix fixe dinner price of 18.50 euros, this place needs to be on your 'must to go' list whenever you are in Aix. It is certainly on mine!!!!
