“simply excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

We eat here two nights running simply because every aspect of the experience was excellent. The vaulted main eating area was full of atmosphere, the menu brief and interesting and unusual, the wine list reasonably priced containing local wines. The food was beautifully cooked an so rich in flavour. But what pulled it all together was the exceptional service which made both evenings special. On the second we were given a digestif made from a family recipe. Amazing. You simply must eat here.

“An amazing experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

Have just returned from Aix...had dinner here one night. It was so delicious....everything. Pierre was helpful with the wine and even gave us a complimentary liquor with dessert. The restaurant is a delight...warm & romantic. Go if you can!

“A twist on the classics”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013 via mobile

Creative combination of classic and novel ingredients makes a special dining experience. We started with sautéed foie gras, served with roasted apple and a cider sorbet. Taurus was slow cooked for 5 hours with herbs and wine, topped with a spicy rocket salad. For main courses we chose white fish roasted and served with puy lentilles in a curry and lime leaf reduction. Veal was seared and served with spelt and Parmesan risotto, and slices of baked pear in a wine reduction. It is hard to describe how well the flavours worked together and how beautifully the food was cooked. There was something familiar, but also different, and the depth of the sauces pulled it all together. For dessert we chose Mille feuille of lemon curd and roasted figs. The second dessert was a deep chocolate cake, with a heart of pear coulis, pear sorbet, and delicate slices of poached pear. Service was warm and attentive. The detailed explanation of the menu encouraged us to try new things. Our best meal in Aix. Thank you to the Trip Advisor reviewers who delivered us to this special place.

“Trip to Aix”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

Fabulous dinner in an out of the way small retaurant, that most tourists would never find. It will be well worthmthe effort to locate this restaurant at 19 rue Constantin in Aix. This is a tiny, dark street just off Mignet, close to the Palace Justice.

They reserved a table for 15 people and we had a great meal, followed up by fabulous dessert and then some home made dessert wine. A great meal, with good friends...cannot get any better.

We would recommend this establishment to any visitors to Aix.

“Excellent bistro food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013 via mobile

Wow Pierre and his chef (yes just a 2 man team!) have nailed it with and intimate and cozy setting matched to a fantastic French Provençal menu. Pierre is such a knowledgable and lovely young host who speaks perfect English and will explain everything on the menu. It changes monthly and we were lucky enough to visit twice and on a change of menu. Just as good! Very nice local wines! L'Alcove is tucked up the back away from any tourist place and is good value for money. Can't wait to visit again!!!
