It is supposedly one of the places to be, but that's probably what makes it bad. The food - once you receive it - is very average. They were not able to get us what we had ordered and barely apologized for it. There are so many places to eat in Aix-en-Provence - I suggest you eat somewhere else.

At the recommendation of our hotel, we went here on a Sat PM.
I ordered filet of fish. My dining partner ordered the expensive grilled langostines.
The food came in about 30 seconds. We hadn't even had one glass of wine.
My fish was luke warm. The langostines were under cooked.
We sent them back.
My fish was reheated and dried out. The plate of langostines came back with 2 instead of the 3 that were there in the first place.
We paid for the wine and left.
Aix is not a food town by any means but this restaurant was supposed to be top notch.

We stopped for coffee and lunch at La Mado during a wonderful stay in Aix-en-Provence.
The cafe looked attractive, but we knew as soon as we were seated that we had made a mistake. Our waitress dripped contempt in her interactions. The family members who either own or manage the restaurant gathered like birds of prey by the street entrance,
casing the crowd and constantly checking their cell-phones. We were exhausted from a morning of walking and shopping and told our server we wanted to relax over coffee a few minutes before ordering lunch. She shrugged, gave us a strange look and immediately conferred with the manager. He promptly came over to our table to state that we must order at once, as his tables were in high demand.

We looked about us. Out of about twenty terrace tables, four were occupied, one by a man reading a newspaper, another by a man sipping wine and talking on a cell phone,
a third by a couple with a bottle of wine, a fourth by a couple who had ordered lunch. The
rest of the tables were empty.

I entered the interior of the restaurant to use the bathroom, which was located on the
third interior level. On all three levels, only a total of two tables were occupied. When I returned to the outdoor terrace, my husband and I had an opportunity to see some of the
restaurant's food preparations go by. The quality was obviously low, and we decided to
forgo lunch in favor of a friendlier venue. When we asked for the check, our server looked at us as if we had lost our minds. The manager brought the check, and I told him
that he did not make his customers feel particularly welcome. He responded that he was sorry we were disappointed, but that no one had ever mad a complaint of any kind about his restaurant, and repeated that his table space was valuable, and in high demand. He told us that La Mado was "one of the best restaurants in France". Having had the pleasure of eating at some of the best restaurants in France, I had difficulty keeping a straight face as we departed.

We had a marvelous lunch, with punctilious and gracious service, elsewhere, and what had been a jarring experience at La Mado has now become a weirdly fond travel memory as my husband and I recollect our close call at "one of the best restaurants in France"!

Stay away, is our advice, but if you go, be certain to order your food immediately, so as not to run afoul of the guardians at the gate!

Just back from lunch, where we had the prix fixe lunch menu. The Mediterranean style bouillabaisse is simply the best I've ever had. The pan-cooked beef was a tad salty, but very tasty nonetheless. Watch what they add to the check - coffee was mistakenly credited as a separate item on ours.
