Owner description: The studio of famous painter Paul Cézanne has been preserved in its original form.

As an artist and an admirer of the impressionists, a visit to Cezanne's studio was like going to the Mother Ship. The studio is one large room, with artifacts from Cezanne's life. Most interesting were some of the letters to and from othe impressionists (Monet, I believe). One letter by Cezanne describes why he left Paris and what life in Aix was like. Fascinating to an art history buff! Other reviewers have commented on the price of admission but I felt it was a worthwhile and relatively small contribution towards keeping alive this small piece of the past. Looking at paintings by Cezanne since the studio visit, I recognized certain items or views from the studio windows and the paintings took on a whole new life.

A surprise package. Basically only the building and Cezanne's own-designed studio, you are admitted in limited groups in a seemingly shambolic fashion, but once in the studio you are treated to a wonderful talk that makes so much about the studio and Cezanne come alive. Access is not as simple as you would expect as it is just outside town, not shown on many tourist maps and directions are unclear - the brand new tourist office was less than helpful and seemed to assume the whole world alreadyunderstood the orbital bus routes of Aix. The bus service and the relevant stop are not clearly marked either (fellow passengers were great!)

On a recent trip to Aix en Provence, we obviously wanted to visit the studio of the city's most famous son. The local tourist map doesn't have the site on it's detailed map and the larger scale map is indistinct. There are no details of location on the one flier which gives times of opening, the website doesn't work on ipad and the tourism office just said thatbitvwas easy to get to. So after a day of trying to walk to the studio with a peevish toddler, we decided to drive there on the following morning for the ten o'clock opening. We found ourselvescunable to go up any of the streets which led to the studio because of the one-way system, and trying to drive through the busy city the other way on the offchance of getting to do the half hour visit was just too much. I realise this may sound petty and unenterprising, but if it was a world famous artist's studio in any other city there would be signposts and maps and comprehensive , intelligible, leaflets and even a little local pride and enthusiasm for the venue. I know people who've been and say it's a very lovely experience, i won't be one of those people.

This is just the studio as Cezanne left it, with objets that appeared in his still lifes. There is no view from the windows - all overgrown with trees. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic gardienne. Go first thing in the morning or it will be overrun by groups

Like other reviewers, the price is far too high for a one room attraction. Some interesting items to see in their original setting but after reading the description on the available tourist card and staring at the items, you're done. Pleasant to see but the price put us off.
