“Good value, practical location to city, free parking”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

This hotel is good value for money. It is located at the edge of this wonderful but very traffic congested city, it is easy to reach by car, free parking and just one minute walk from the nr. 3 bus stop. Buses run every 15 minutes and get you to the heart of the city after a short ride. Ticket sold by driver for just 1Euro. Hotel is a good base to discover the wonders of Aix without the driving and parking hazzle in town.

Dorm like rooms, not a lot of space, but somehow it works out. Very little space between the end of the bed and wall, but the bed was reasonably comfy. The walls were paper thin, you could hear conversation, and hair dryers in the morning, but with a decent neighbor it was not bad. We stayed 2 nights September 29 & 30 on Saturday & Sunday, the more discounted days. With 2 breakfast's buffets for 2 it was 150 Euro total. Breakfast for 9 Euro each was excellent considering there were no eggs. Internet was free and fine after a problem getting it started. The staff was very helpful and kind. Towels were at a minimum but he bathroom was functionally sound. Not having a car meant the difference in an excellent rating for value, versus a very good rating. Its a great place for the money if you are not hung up on the size of the room.

The only minus here is if you do not have a car, you cannot see much in Aix. However you can get a bus or train to Avignon or Marseille for a reasonable fare. The bus is a 2 minute walk out he gate located on the left. It comes every 15 minutes or so, except every hour on Sunday, not sure about Saturday. This is the last stop on the route, so they seem to rest there for awhile before taking off again, giving you more time to catch it. Take the bus #3 to La Mayanelle, get off at center of town at rotonde Victor Hugo, located 100 feet below the Carousel. When you come back, go across the street and take the bus # 3 to Val De L'Arc which is the stop by the Ibis Hotel. This is important to make sure you get the right # 3 bus, or like we did the first time, took the La Mayanelle to go home, and ended up in the dark at the opposite end of town, fortunately the driver let us stay on and eventually got us back to Val De L'Arc. The fee is 1 Euro per person, it takes about 15 minutes to get to the center of town (rotonde Victor Hugo).

When we got off the TGV Train in Aix en Provence, we took the blue bus # 40, it says to Aix, TGV, and Aeroport. It cost 7.6 Euro for 2 people, and got us to Aix in about 20 minutes. From there we did not know how to get to Ibis, so we took a taxi for 13 more Euro. Leaving Aix we learned to walk a few blocks after getting of at Victor Hugo, getting to the bus station, and taking the #40 bus, again back to the TGV train station, and ultimately back to CDG Paris airport.

Room Tip: take the higher floor away from the highway

We were en route further South but wanted to spend 2 nights near Aix en Provence and did not feel the need to stay at a swankey hotel. Ibis do have a rough template for their hotels and this one probably was the best one in which we have stayed. The room was clean, functional, quiet (unusual) overlooked the garden and pool and had air con which is essential at this time of year! The staff were most helpful and the food in the restaurant for breakfast was fabulous, fresh fruit salad, excellent coffee and one could sit outside on a shaded terrace. All-in-all a great place which was a mere 10 minutes to the centre of Aix and not much firther from an ok golf course.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room overlooking the pool as there are some which are on the motorway side, but in t...

This Ibis is easy to find, and very close to the motorway (although the glazing effectively kept out traffic noise). It has plenty of parking space and very polite, welcoming and helpful staff. The room is typical of Ibis although the bathroom was unusually cramped - the proximity of the shower screen made the wash basin difficult to use without banging an elbow! There is a swimming pool (unheated). Reasonable value but not cheap, at almost €100 per night (inc breakfast, which was fairly good).

we stayed 2 separate nights this month to our satisfaction in the new extension of this hotel where the rooms are of a clearly better quallity.
A plus is the stop for busline nr. 3 right at the entrance of this hotel with offers a quick connection 3 to 4 times per hour to the citycentre.

Rooms are very clean, decent size and have nice bathroom.
The restaurant at the hotel is quite good.
The bus to city center (10 minutes) leaves almost from the hotel door.
You can park free of charge in the hotel.
Swimming pool is small, but nice - usually you do not have this facility for this price.
