“A relaxing week”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2014

Having booked the hotel for a 7 night stay only the week before arriving I was worried that we'd left it to the last minute to find somewhere decent however this place really made the trip very comfortable and memorable.

It's located a very simple walk up to the Cours Mirabeau and the rest of the wonderful town, so it's quiet at night which is handy. The hotel feels like a 4 star hotel rather than a 3 star trying to be something it isn't, everywhere was nicely clean and decorated tastefully. Our double room was modest in size without being too small to feel cramped. Only negative of the room was the extra mattress layer and pillows, the mattress cover makes the bed too soft and the pillows were very thick for my liking, others may enjoy that. The room was cleaned everyday to a fairly decent standard. Wifi worked well all around the hotel which was useful.

We stayed on a non breakfast basis so cannot comment on it however it did look good albeit limited and perhaps pricey at €25 a head. We had one lunch (poolside menu) at the hotel which was fairly good though again pricey for what was 2 club sandwiches and crisps with 2 soft drinks (€45 together). We found pretty decent places in town that would serve good food at the same price or less, and that was for more than a sandwich.

The pool area is very nice indeed with proper beds rather than plastic sun loungers. Unfortunately due to the size of the hotel the place can seem a bit busy as there's just not enough spaces for bathers however this is just due to lack of space rather than a criticism of the hotel. A ready supply of towels was welcome as was the decent service by the staff.

The staff all around the hotel were professional and warm and ready to help. Receptionists were attentive and were always on hand to answer questions or to make reservations at restaurants for us.

Would we stay here again? Yes indeed, its location and comfort are superb.

This is a lovely hotel with nice rooms and a brilliant choice at breakfast. Just ensure you let the hotel know before you arrive that parking is required, if you have a car as parking is very tight in this town and can be a hassle you do not want after a busy day traveling in the heat! The location is great, the bathrooms very good and it us very clean. Decor is particularly beautiful in the dining room.

We have just come back from a five day stay here. The hotel is very well situated and it's just a short walk into the old town. The staff are professional, helpful and friendly and we have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a short or longer stay. The accommodation was clean and well presented - the lobby and restaurant area were particularly well appointed. We booked because of the pool which was again well looked after and nicely set out - although there was a lack of loungers given the number of guests. Some details worth mentioning on the downside - a) the facilities in the room seem meagre for such an otherwise well appointed hotel. The tea/coffee making was very basic and not really up to scratch. b) Although wifi is free in the rooms (excellent) the lobby computer was in the habit of crashing and c) the poolside prices are very high. Having said that we would go again and can recommend the hotel highly.

Room Tip: Ask about room facilities...

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Roi Rene for two nights this week. As this hotel is affiliated with the Accor group we did expect first class all the way. The hotel is in a great location for those arriving by train, barely a ten minute walk and also ten minutes to the old town which really is a happening place, full of good shopping and great restaurants. A short walk away is the Garnet Musee also. Our room was a lot smaller than I had expected with a very small bathroom. Everything was clean and well presented, the bar staff bought ice to our room within minutes of our request which was great service. Our room was very peaceful, no noise whatsoever and the free wi-Fi was great. This hotel is adequate for a place to sleep but not a place I would feel the need to revisit.

Room Tip: Perhaps choose the larger suites, we had a deluxe double that was very small.

Although expensive, it is a very nice hotel and worth the price. Very good breakfast area, indoor and outdoor. Nice and service-minded staff. Lovely swimming pool. Good location. 10 minutes walk to the city centre. 5 minutes walk to the railway station, and 10-15 minutes walk to the bus station.

Stayed here with my husband for his work. The location is amazing! It's about a 5 minute walk to the city center with the eateries, shops and of course, FOUNTAINS!

Pros:
- location
- nice rooms
- polite staff
- cute pool area

Cons:
- noisy (indoor and outdoor)
- pricey
- we arrived 20 minutes before the end of brunch end it was only so-so. Go early.
