La Maison de Carlotta

Despite the rainy weekend, we had a lovely warm stay at Aline's.
"La Maison de Carlotta" is a charming, cozy place located at the central part of the town,
in the heart of the Mazarin district, neighboring an even older historic district up-north.
Aline gave us an insightful and an interesting history of the place, including the relationship between her house and the Cezanne family. She also knows the region, its products and the spots in the neighborhood, not to be missed!
The local aperitif, accompanied with "tapenade" (mashed olives, plus Aline's secret) was an excellent ice-breaker with other guests. She has talent to make people feel at ease.
The rooms are decorated with ancient furniture, with taste.
At breakfast, the large round table could hardly contain all the home-made products, and the conversation with Aline resumes (her command of English is quite good!).
Yes, due to both Aline's generosity, and the richness of the place, we spent an unforgettable week-end, and we are eager to stay there again. Edith and Philippe

This was the SECOND time we stayed at Aline's place. We loved it so much the first time around that we came back. And again we found a host who cares. The B&B is super clean, very charming and warm and Aline will always help you with anything. This place is for mature travellers who are not afraid to have a chat with the home owner. She is so refreshing! The location is perfect, it's only a few steps to Cours Mirabeau! Breakfast is a treat, we've never had such a generous breakfast in any other B&B. Everything is fresh, homemade jams, cheese, fruits, juice, fresh breads - you really can't ask for more. You'll share a breakfast table with the co-travellers on the pretty terrasse, which is enriching. If you can walk high stairs you should book this place, you'll love everything about it.
And as for us - we will go back to stay at La Maison de Carlotta again. It's truly like a home.

We stayed five days with Aline at Maison Carlotta and it was one of the best B&B's we've ever been! Don't expect an American Style 5 star place with elevator and mini bar... but a comfortable, truly French apparment, beautifully with much love and taste decorated, a very charming, sincere and capable hostess that makes you feel at home right away and wonderful breakfasts on the terrace and all this right in the heart of Aix-en-Provence!
We were very sad to leave and will definitly come back every year!
Thanks for everything Aline and see you next year!
Love Margaretha and Dominique

Without a doubt this is one of the best B&B's we have ever stayed in. It is located right in the heart of Aix, in a beautiful, grand old building. Our lovely room (Master Room) was very tastefully decorated in an old fashioned style with a great bathroom. Breaksfast was to die for - coffee/hot chocolate, fruit salad, yoghurts, home-made pancakes, jam, cheese, croissants... The whole place is very quaint with loads of character and Aline is just the perfect hostess. Nothing is too much trouble and it was great having a lazy breakfast and practising our very rusty French with her. I just cannot recommend this place enough, even if you have a car as there is a very handy car park nearby, BUT if you find stairs difficult or are travelling with lots of heavy suitcases then this B&B may not be the best for you. For us it was no problem at all (in fact, it added to the charm of the place) but with no lift I can see why some people may struggle. We, however, had a wonderful experience and would love to return to Aix and stay with Aline again soon.

The good: Aline - she is very charming and has plenty of suggestions and advice for touring Provence. Breakfast - tons of pastries, yogurt, and granola jams, fresh fruit, bread - all served on an outdoor terrace. The bedroom was spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The room is very quaint - provincial french. The location is very convenient - only one or two blocks off the Cours Mirabeau (unfortunately, this can be a bit loud on weekend nights).

The not as good - a three story walk up winding stairs. No parking on site - a good 10 minute walk away. Driving the narrow streets of old Aix is harrowing. We stayed in the Master's Suite, and while it does have an en suite bathroom, calling it a 'tub/shower' is a bit misleading, because it's a hand-held wand, which I detest. There is no air conditioning, but she did provide a large fan to keep us cool.

Room Tip: If you want en suite bathroom - pick the Masters Suite or Carlotta.

My mom, sister and I spent 4 wonderful nights at la Maison de Carlotta in early September. Aline is such a warm hearted woman who truly cares about her guests having the best experience in Aix. The apartment is located right off the main street and is a perfect location for anyone traveling without a car. The 3 of us stayed comfortably in one room and each room has its own bathroom which is rare in France. Aline's homemade breakfast was one of my favorite parts of our trip! She really made us feel like family. We really didn't want to leave and truly can't wait to go back and visit!
