“Wonderful, must see”

Route des Cretes La Ciotat Cassis
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We didn´t know about this breathtaking route in Provence until a friend recommended it to us, and we certainly top not regret that we took the road over the hills between La Ciotat and Cassis. The route number is D-141 and it might be a bit difficult to find in La Ciotat. You have to drive true the hole town to get there. And the route may be closed due to bad weather-conditions. The route provides several fantastic views. Hit that road.

One staying in Cassis should definitely not to skip seeing it. Absolutely amazing ! We did it two times, once during the day, once at night. At night it might be a bit complicated for not good driver as it was said, the roads are kind of dangerous but if you are driving carefully it should be fine. During the day I reccomend to go in the afternoon as in the morning it might be a bit foggy and the view especially if you want to take the pictures not the best one. But anyway, take your camera and enjoy!

The Ridge Road (or 'Route des Crètes') is only a 15km's drive between Cassis and La Ciotat, but it is truly a great experience with some magnificent views. It is said to be one the country most beautiful and spectacular drive. And indeed it is! The cliffs are among the highest in Europe (actually the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland hold the record). There are many spots where you can stop to admire the view. It is also possible to hike. Highly recommended.

Loved this drive up above Cassis towards La Ciotat. Standing at the edge of the highest maritime cliff in Europe with cause your stomach to jump! There was several sights of broken glass in some parking areas, so be careful of your valuables and your car. You can make a loop from Cassis up and then back through Ciotat to D559 back to Cassis. They close the road when the winds are up.
