“Beautiful, airy and friendly”

We arrived at the hotel feeling ragged after a long journey from Rouen and were immediately relaxed by the smiling staff and the atmospheric feel of the hotel. Our room was number 6 on the ground floor with a small patio area at the back where we could sit quietly in the sun.

The bar / restaurant area is an old converted chapel so you can have a beer amongst gothic arches.

The bar and restaurant are very expensive but by all accounts the food is good. The hotel is in the historic centre with it's cobbled streets and you have a choice of cafes, bars and excellent restaurants just up the road.

A word of warning, all of the streets in the old centre of Poitiers have been reconfigured so your satnav will go mental trying to tell you to go the wrong way up one way streets. If your satnav isn't up to date, just follow signs for the Theatre Car Park. Park in there for the hotel - the hotel has an arrangement whereby it will cost 5 Euros per 24 hours so it is cheap. It took us 1.5 hours to find the hotel!

Thoroughly recommend the Mercure - class and comfort.

Room Tip: Try to get a ground room floor on the left hand side because those share a private patio area.

What a fantastic place a modern building from the outside that covers an old and historic Abbey.

Whoever designed this hotel had fantastic imagination -- the public areas are a marvel to see and the bedrooms rae really fantastic -- epecially 411 with the split level Bedroom area and Lounge.

Two small points -- their fantastic restaurant is not open on Monday nights -- but it is France - still a shame that a beautiful room is closed in a major city centre and also the bar.
Also there is no hotel parking except for a public carpark at the bottom of the road -- ok on a sunny afternoon but you would get very wet on a bad day.

This hotel could not be better. Fantastic central location. Attentive Staff. Beautiful architecture. Sympathetically restored Jesuit Chapel. Lovely sheets, towels and toiletries that e have come to expect from Mercure.
The restaurant, which is not run by Mercure is outstanding too, but expensive.

Room Tip: all that I peeked into looked just as good as ours
