“A wonderful experience of medieval architecture.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2012

It would be sad to visit Poitiers and not step into this extraordinary church! The church, square and market are at the hub of this medieval city. The church claims to be the best example of Romanesque architecture in the West of France although the Abbey at Saint-Savin is better preserved. The interior of the the church is dark so that one does not get as good an impression as when the lights are on. I chose to return to attend Mass on the Sunday, so got an opportunity to see it in all its glory. Another advantage of this visit was that I was able to hear the organ played and would certainly go if I was in Poitiers when there was an organ recital - it is a beautiful sound.

“Nice church and the surrounding!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2011

At a prime location in Poitiers this church looked unique in its artistic ceiling inside. There is a calming feel as you enter inside the church. There is church organ music being played which adds to the experience as you walk around the pillars inside the church.

Opposite to the main entrance of the church there is a tourism office. The staff there were simply superb. Extremely helpful in directing with the required maps and other booklets. They even helped us to hire a taxi when it was too late to get a bus to return to Futuroscope.

During August there is a light show at the church at 10:30pm. The front of the church gets transformed into a colourful view. Nice. During that month the tourism office is also open until 11pm. So drop in if you need any help.

There are many cafes and restaurants around the square where the church is. This is Place Charles de Gaulle.

There are bus stops by the side of the church. The stop is known as 'Pole Notre Dame'. Useful if you travelling by bus 'Line 1' from Futuroscope, for example.

If you are in Poitiers or Futuroscope it is worth visiting this place for a refreshing feel.

“Wonderful example of romanesque art”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2010

This church has fantastic romanesque architecture and decoration - outside it is lovely but inside its really astounding. The walls and coloumns retain the original brightly coloured paintwork and frescos.
There is also a light show every night in summer at 10.30pm.
