“Beautiful farmhouse”

We have stayed in the farmhouse with our 3 children for two summers and have already booked for a third year this summer. It is perfect for all our needs. The garden is spacious with a variety of play equipment and it has lovely views across open countryside, the house is very large and brilliantly equipped, the swimming pool is my children’s favourite aspect of the whole place and it is safely and beautifully tucked away behind a locked gate and a stone wall. It is kept immaculate by the owners. Nigel and Suzanne, the owners, strike the perfect balance between being extremely helpful but also discreet. The area surrounding the farmhouse has everything. The seaside is a half hour drive away, La Rochelle is nearby and there are plenty of rivers for kayaking and boat trips. There are bikes on site to use to cycle the local country paths. We can’t wait for our next holiday here. Highly recommend!

“A relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings”
Reviewed November 10, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

We very much enjoyed our family holiday this summer. The accommodation in Landrais was excellent. The owners, Nigel and Suzanne were very helpful and welcoming. They have a wealth of local knowledge that they are happy to share. The accommodation (we stayed in the main house) was first class. We are a family of five, including a teenager and two primary aged children, and we found the rooms spacious and the facilities ideal for our purposes. The children especially liked the swimming pool although it took a steely constitution to swim in the 'cool' water. That didn't stop the girls from going in most days. The location is excellent although you do need a car. Nigel directed us as to where to park in La Rochelle (a beautiful place to visit full of character) and recommended the superb water taxi. We also visited the local beaches which are beautiful but busy during peak season. Isle de Aix and Isle de Rey are lovely. I loved the Napoleon Museum on Isle de Aix ( the last place in France Napoleon stayed before his capture after Waterloo) and on the journey there you have a chance of spotting nesting storks! There are plentiful local restaurants and supermarkets and we self-catered, making sandwiches to eat some days to keep the cost manageable. We also visited a beautiful chateaux. There was so much to do in the area that we could easily have stayed another week. Most other visitors had flown into La Rochelle and hired a car but we crossed on the ferry to San Malo and drove down. The roads in France are very good and the traffic much lighter than here in Britain. You just need to remember an extra suitcase for your breathalysers, fluorescent jackets, spare bulbs, fire extinguisher, etc... We can highly recommend the property for a holiday and would like to extend our thanks to Nigel and Suzanne for their kindness and hospitality!

“We Will be Returning To This Wonderful Property”
Reviewed June 21, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Sometimes, I almost don't want to give a great review when I know something is really special, because then I worry I wont actually be able to book it again!! But then that would not be fair to Suzanne and Peter who were wonderful and have clearly put a lot of thought, effort, time and love into this rustic charming and very well catered for farmhouse.

This is a very easy review to write. In short - my family and I (2 young boys, aged nr 4 and 2years old) stayed for a week in the Farmhouse and we absolutely love, love, LOVED it. The property is really spacious, rustic stylish, clean, comfortable and perfect for a family with all the necessary appliances to allow you to cook fabulous meals there every night if you wish to and wash all the beach grubby clothes before returning home. The garden is enormous and a real suntrap right into the evening. It was magical for kids, surrounded by corn fields and with bright red cherry trees on the border, they could run around and play for hours in the full with toys wendy house and bounce on the trampoline (which we all had a go on). A lovely salt water swimming pool allowed us all to cool off when it was too hot. And a swing bench for the adults at night to watch the sunset. The garden is shared but other couples who stayed were lovely and the boys enjoyed playing with their little boy. Facilities onsite are great (bikes/barbeques etc.) and in terms of location, for us it was perfect. Only 20mins to some of the most beautiful sandy, quiet beaches (Fouras one of our favourites). Only a 10min drive to get fresh croissants in the morning and plenty of super markets around for your shopping. Isle de Re was one of my favourite day trips but always good to get back to the gite, and barbeque into the night. We are already planning to return for our vacation in 2018 here. Unless of course this review gets it all booked out in advance (I hope not). Thank you for such a wonderful, happy holiday. Can't wait to return.

“Beautifully Restored and Comfortables Gites, Close to La Rochelle and Rochefort”
Reviewed May 30, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed 11 years ago with our young boys in the Pigeonnier. Back then Suzanne and Nigel had just started their Gite business. It was amazing then! 11 years on the properties are truly amazing. Well built with traditional style and character for this area of France. Nigel and Suzanne have brought this old farm house back to life. All the little touches you like to expect when renting a vacation property are done with style. In the Farmhouse which we stayed this time there was a large kitchen diner with fully fitted kitchen, large refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine. The lounge is massive with both french and sky t.v. if you really want it. The free wifi is also excellent.
Upstairs the bedrooms are both spacious, clean and above all comfortable beds and perfectly laundered linen.
The bathroom has a massive traditional bath tub along with a lovely power shower.
Outside the gardens are beautiful kept, Nigel even manicures the gravel each week.
Lastly the pool, perfectly clean and nice to not have chlorine but salt. Actually much cleaner and better for your skin. Sorry our week came to an end. The sat nav directions from La Rochelle airport delivered us to the front door.
Your hostes are true professionals and care about the hospitality they offer.
Couldn't recommend enough. We have to go back again soon to stay in the beautiful Pressior Gite which we looked around on our morning of departure.
A true Gem in the Charente-Maritime!!!

“Beautiful setting, gorgeous gite and pool lovely owners”
Reviewed September 8, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We booked The Farmhouse at the last minute on Trip Advisor, with only one review to see which was a good one! It is a lovely place very peaceful and beautiful, in the countryside but with lots to visit nearby. The gite is charming, stone walls and shabby French chic styling. The pool is beautiful and kept very well by Nigel who checks everything every morning. The owners Nigel an Suzanne are lovely, friendly and helpful and there if you need anything.
I would highly recommend this for a peaceful, relaxing holiday, we may well be back there next year !
