La Rochelle is an ancient city, but in the manner of many European cities, it is still vibrantly alive, even in the oldest sections. We visited the Maritime Museum area (the main exhibits are closed from the end of October, OPPS) and the inner and outer harbor areas, and the three towers. The Tower St Nicholas has a very interesting (to me, anyway, I have Quebecois ancestors) exhibit of the French moves to settle the new world. All three towers were open ( there is a 6-euro fee per tower, or a three- tower pass for 8.5 euro); I strongly recommend them. We walked much of the old city area, following the 3 hour tour route suggested in the tourist brochure. Note to La Rochelle, better marking of your tour routes would help greatly; we met other people standing there with the tourist booklet in hand, puzzling over where the next turn might be.
Visiting in early November, we missed some of the attractions, but also missed what would likely be much bigger crowds.

it is only 15 minutes walk from La Rochelle main station (you can access this city by TGV or TER).

It is quiet near from the city to the port, and the view is amazing. You could see the port, the ships all the way around.
Many souvenir shops, restaurants, bars, and many other fashion shops are available around the port.
Enjoy the port sightseeing and take pictures with your love one. Feel the breeze. Feed the birds. You will get the best experience of La Rochelle.

We had a wonderful time in La Rochelle; something for everyone here. You can totally relax or party all night. Its a bustling port town with beautiful old buildings and attractions. I highly recommend a weekend here or longer; theres a beach ; boat trips; a lovely port ; fabulous buildings and cobbled streets full of great restuarants and bars. We had a wonderful romantic time here.

The harbour guarded by the old twin towers is a beautiful sight on a fine day. Popular with tourists who enjoy walking all the way around the extensive harbour. Ferries and tourist boats to the various island and forts along the coast.
