“Lovely Hotel in great spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2014

We stayed for 3 nights. We got the bus from the airport which was only just over a pound each !!
The hotel was situated on a street just off the bus station so was very easy to find.
The staff were very friendly and spoke very good English. We had a double room which was very quaint with old french style furniture. The ensuite was a bit small but everything worked fine and there was plenty of towels and toiletries.
We had breakfast on the first morning. It was continental style with lots of pastrys, breads cheeses and cold meats. If you wanted to stuff yourself full there was plenty !!!
The hotel is very close to the market where you can buy fresh produce everyday. On a Saturday the market is much larger with a large variety of stalls from clothes and gifts to fruit and veg.
The old port is just a few minutes walk away where there are lots of restaurants to choose from although a bit more pricey than the ones further back in the town.
La Rochelle is a beautiful town there are lots of fashion boutiques, bars, restaurants etc.
You can hire a bike and ride around the town and surrounding areas.
A must visit is Ile de Re a small island just north of La Rochelle you can get a bus there which takes about 30 mins. This is one of the most beatiful places I have been in France.
The small ports of La Flotte and Saint Martin are filled with quaint little shops and fabulous places to eat whilst you relax and watch the day go by.
During our stay we had fabulous weather which was an added bonus. I would definately reccomend La Rochelle and Hotel De La Paix.

Can't speak highly enough about stay at hotel de la paix, staff were great & very helpful, hotels in a great position in the old town right next to the daily market & a short walk from the old harbour.
Underground car park a short walk away that is very reasonably priced for long stay & locked at night.
The hotel is great value for money, I would recommend it to anyone & I will be going back.

After a long day driving this hotel had a lot to live up to. It is in a very central location and parking not too far away. You can park outside for a bit to unload which was helpful. The Manager was very friendly and helpful, he asked us if we were sightseeing or needed directions and explained where the best places to eat and drink were. The room was basic but spacious and they have clearly tried to update and modernise within a budget, to re-furb the whole hotel would be astromonical and so I think they have done really well. Water was hot, bed was comfy and room was clean. There are some very quaint characteristics, such as the strangely sloping staircase.
Breakfast was very nice, I thought the little trays and going up to help yourselves from baskets was quite fun, it perhaps was not worth the 9 Euros each but having stayed in other hotels in France this seems a fairly standard price. The lady who served breakfast was absolutely lovely and juiced oranges for us herself.
All in all I think for a 3* Town (or is it a City?!) Centre hotel it was good value, great location and very nice people.

Room Tip: Our room was top floor at the front, with windows overlooking the road (not busy) and meant that we...

Nice hotel in town centre location but our stay was mired by small details. The breakfast that other reviewers raved about was only average and was made really annoying each morning by bad layout. We had to use some silly little trays to collect everything but all the breakfast items were set out on the side where there was no where to put the tray down so you ended up having to make about 6 visits back and forth to the side to collect one thing at a time. The staff were pleasant enough but the owners were very snotty. The WIFI had such a poor power that it barely worked for the 4 days we were there. Not cheap for the size of rooms and the water system couldn't cope once the hotel was full. Avoid.

Hello Friends,

During our visit to Alstom Transport Ayetre, La Rochelle, we stayed for a couple of weeks at Hotel De La Paix, near city centre.

Was providing good breakfast as many hotels in europe do which i found very refreshing. The hotel manager was quite warm and can speak english as well.

Not so expensive and not below average too. The most important thing is after a days work you can enjoy the small city life beside the back waterfront, as well as some melodious french music by the dock.

During chrismas it is even more beautiful and happening.

Room Tip: The suites facing to the street are really good as they keep warm (the windows face east), refreshin...

Just spent one night in this little hotel in La Rochelle. The very best thing about this place is the location. I did feel it was overpriced for the room I got. I paid 72 euro for a single for one night in July. For 80 euro I actually could have stayed at The Entre Hotes- had it been available, with its cool white sheets , air con and air of civility.
Sadly Hotel de La paix does not offer this.
Firstly Parking: I chose to park the car at the Place De Verdun carpark under the main square as it is 2 minutes from the hotel and I know how to get to it- ( La Rochelle traffic conventions change all the time- you cannot now drive across the front de mer) It cost approx 8 euros for 24 hours.
So the room- a second floor single,( stairs) had a small double bed and miniscule bathroom ( sliding door affair) , wooden floors and a bizarre mirrored wall( kept thinking that the gendarmes may be viewing me from the other side).
It was not that clean TBH. There were someone elses dark long hairs scattered casually all over the room, the sink was cracked , the grouting done by a Neanderthal and the floor somewhat tacky.
I would expect to pay 35-40 euros for a room of this type( 2**) even with the location. It was only one notch up from camping.
Through the window I could see another of the rooms and it seemed to be the one in the photo( orange red bedcovers). My room did not match this room- I get the feeling that the hotel may be in the process of an upgrade. I could see nice new dark tiling and white walls. I stared jealously across.
I did not take breakfast at the hotel as it was 9 euros which is a daft price for a 2 star hotel. Had a croissant , juice and coffee at The Cafe de La Paix for 4 euros. Take note those who dont eat much for breakfast. Also if you go to the top of the street you will find several pastry outlets with sandwiches, savoury pastries etc for a couple of euro. Then get a coffee on the seafront with a view- much nicer.
The staff were nice though , and the hotel has free wifi with a passcode. Just dont go with great expectations.

Room Tip: no idea but i would suggest phoning hotel directly
