“Stylish eating”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Excellent 20E menu du jour. Good, friendly service, good wine list, lovely characterful building in the old town. More expensive than those around it but I am sure this was reflected in the quality. Delicious lobster bisque to start with (could have been a bit warmer) then a fish main course. Worth having a coffee to get the choice of little sweets that go with it! Only criticism - water was bit pricey.

“Best fine dining in Angouleme”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Lovely fine dining restaurant defiantly deserves its top Trip advisor rating for Angouleme.
Helpful professional and friendly service. Manager just a touch tense needs to smile a little more but very helpful and speaks excellent English.
Nicely laid out dining area with good space between tables.
Chose 8 course tasting menu with matching wines. Worked really well and some very nice dishes were presented.
Crossover dish could do with a little more refining too much cumin in the cheese.
Masterful desert courses. All in all represented good value for money
Food must be close to a Michelin star standard maybe needs to push on just one step more. Will return.

“Excellent Food and service,,,,But...”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

If your looking for one of the best meals you will have in the area - this is the place for you - we had the 20 euro Plat de jour that was probably the best food i have had for some time - the Amuse-bouche was Cauliflower Cream with Caviar, a trout-something or other that was very nice – please excuse my ignorance, a savoury spinach macaroon which was the best of the lot – and a new one on me – an Oyster Leaf? Being a philistine have never heard of an oyster leaf let alone try one – had to give this a go and guess what - it does taste exactly like an Oyster – weird but true!
Starter of a fish soup – my wife’s personal fave course – a very good take on a bouillabaisse with plenty of flavour and plenty of bread – again – fantastic – lots of thickness and texture unlike some of the poor imitation runny “Bouillabaisse wannabe’s” I have had before.
Main course of Pork with white beans – I thought this was fantastic – same taste and richness as a cassoulet – the pork was tender and the beans were creamy and rich – fantastically tasty and rich – like a big warm hug in a bowl.
Pudding was a Pear “Pompidue”?? – Probably spelt wrong – poached Pears on a Toasted Brioche with a Pear Sorbet – have to say – having a sweet tooth – definitely my fave course.
Coffee to finish was accompanied by sweet munchies – I had a macaron that they explained to me was flavoured with a Japanese something or other that I have to admit was awesome – and my wife had a chocolate lollipop with nuts which also made her go weak at the knees – if the waiters hadn’t been so attentive I’m sure she would have made me pinch her another!
So for the food – a definite 5 out of 5 on the Trip Advisor scale of loveliness – well deserving of their number one status in the city – and to be fair – I am unsure if you will beat this in the entire area.
Service was excellent, the Matradee was helpful and very patient with our lack of fluent French and the waiters were efficient, polite and attentive without being overbearing or intrusive.
Now for the “But” bit – if you’re expecting a cheap and cheerful lunch – do not let the 20 euro Price tag fool you, the pastis is 7 Euro a glass and the wine – although very good – is 8 Euro a glass – the upshot of this is that 2 of us having the 20 Euro Menu de Jours with 3 glasses of wine (total) – a Pastis and 2 coffee’s ended up with a bill of 79 Euro’s.
In fairness again, the quality of the food made this bill well worth paying and I would definitely go again, however, given the prices of drinks – make sure you buy a bottle - this may work out cheaper (unless your driving of course)
Overall – fantastic!
