On Ascension holiday everyone was out after church to have lunch and we wanted a salad in the outdoors and Le Lieu-Dit's menu seemed to be what we wanted.

Well it was more than we expected with salads that could only be described as fantastic.

I ordered the Rustique salad which came with sausage made with chunky bits inside real intestine skins and potato wedges, whilst my wife had the Le Mer which was loaded with smoked salmon, St Jaques (scallops) scotch haddock and fresh salmon and topped with a huge prawn (langoustine ?) and we washed it down with a half litre of house rosé with the most beautiful rich red colour.

We finished with cafe gourmands which had chocolate cake with chocolate sauce, creme brûlée and strawberry ice-cream served with coffee

All that for €41 total which included good service and a great atmosphere in it's outdoor setting which seats about 20 tables full of happy diners.

Ok I'm biased because my husband and i go often and have become kind of regulars.....so the warmth from the staff is always a welcome bonus (others find them a bit stand off ish). We go when we want a good reliable meal and a bottle of wine....winter downstairs with a bit of good music chosen, normally by Didier and summer outside on the terrace to watch people passing by and for a huge seafood salad!!

We run yoga holidays in the Charente region and on our way back to the UK we stop by Angouleme for shopping and lunch at Le Lieu Dit. We've been lots of times with our different groups and have always enjoyed the food. Waitresses sometimes a bit dour but I think they get a bit fed up with non French speaking people. Although, I am half French and fluent which they warm to. Lovely fresh fish salads and meats and will sort out vegan option when needed. The perfect spot for al fresco lunch with a group, it's always bustling and we are never hurried. We'll be back there next week!

Went there on first night in Angouleme as it seemed to have a great courtyard atmosphere.. Unfortunately, that's where great ended as I had a very average salad and my partner had an "average" kebab also. Service pretty ordinary too. Not too much to commend it or to return
