After several hours riding on a motorcycle from the other side of Bohol to Anda, my husband and I were ready for a break, but although we looked into several other hotels in the area we couldn't seem to find a nice place to stay until we bumped into Vitamin Sea.
This March 2012 the place was still under construction, with the rooms only partially furnished and the price way over our "backpacker budget", but we fell in love with it right away!
From the moment we first stepped in, the owners Buddy and Annie easily won us over with their welcoming smiles and their homey attention. Our large room was impeccable, with not only a wonderful view to the sea at our doorstep but also crisp clean blankets and a first class king-sized bed which gave us one of the deepest sleeps we had during our year-long trip.
Meals were delicious, and to this date my husband insists that the omelette Annie made him for breakfast is the best he's had in his life! I also greatly appreciated the special vegetarian meals she prepared for me.
The location is quiet and peaceful on a white sand beach with clear ocean water to swim in right at your doorstep. Service is friendly and very personalized, and there are many places around to explore for activities, like the fresh water swimming hole and the nearby mangrove reserve.
We were so happy we ended up staying an extra night, and we really hope more people can find this place and have as great an experience as we did. Vitamin Sea is a little treasure for travelers in the area. Thank you Buddy and Annie!

Recently stayed at the Vitamin Sea. The resort is a hidden gem on some of the most breathtaking coastline in the whole of Asia. Plenty to do from swimming in crystal clear water, snorkling, diving, cave swimming, waterfalls etc. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the food is great. Buddy and Annie are great hosts and the resort has all the potential to one day be 5 star. If you are looking for a romantic getaway or somewhere that doesnt have huge crowds and hawkers stuffing sunglasses in your face, this is the resort for you. Already looking to book my next holiday their in March.

Room Tip: Book early as they have only 3 rooms at present with another 5 to be completed. These rooms book out...

We stayed at Vitamin Sea in November 2012 for two nights. We had a great time! The owner and staff is very friendly and they have a nice beach bar where you can enjoy wonderful sunsets. The aircon rooms are spacious and clean. The beach is perfectly white, the best we have seen in the Philippines thus far. There are only three rooms available at the moment, the other rooms are under construction although this absolutely did not cause any inconvenience to the guests.

Vitamin C Resort is a unique experience! Its meant for visitors who would like an absolutely quiet and personalised stay at the newly made resort. It is run by Buddy and his wife Annie who are very great hosts, they cater to your needs and you feel like family friends. We were only there for a day and a half but we felt like they were so friendly and accomodating. Buddy and Annie and their team work like a family. They even paddled us out on a boat so we could snorkel in the sea. The beach front resort is very new and clean. We loved not having vendors come to to hassle you, this place is absolutely private. You can tell that Buddy takes care of us by personally picking us up from the pier, answering our queries, he takes pride in his resort by cleaning the seaweed and grooming the trees and plants. He also offered us options for activties outside the resort like going to the caves, and saturday evening parties somewhere else. He is great, not pushy, giving us choices if we want it.

What people should know about this place is that it to take you away from the crowds and bussle of regular beach culture, the resort is located about 2 hrs by taxi or van from the ferry terminal. Also, travel to the resort is not included and it costs about 2000 ps per trip and you can ask Buddy to arrange it for you.The resort is also very far away from everything else so you'll have to eat most meals there. Also, unlike most places, breakfast is not included in the stay. However, the food is a delicious homecooked fare of Filipino and American fare and is made with love by Annie and her girls who race to make fresh piping hot fish sticks and pizza for us at 3pm. Prices are of regular resort standards, but realise that you wont have many options unless you make your way out of the resort which is about a 10 min drive. This resort also offers you peace and quiet, so there distractions from the outside world, no TV, no radio, little 3G coverage and no wifi. But bring your own music and you can hook it up to the Hi-fi set at the beach bar.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay there, although we didnt initally realise how far it was from the city in Bohol. However, we realised the benefits of it and enjoyed being part of this wonderful, personalised stay when we realised we were the only ones there and although it was a short stay, it was definitely a unique experience for us.

Room Tip: There are only three, currently. The others are not ready yet.

Vitamin Sea is a unique property that I would describe as a B&B experience rather than a boutique resort. If you're looking for marble top counters, a personalized butler and rooms out of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith guidebook, this place is not for you. But if you're the flashpacker who has visited most Asian beach towns and are sick of overpriced hostels masquerading as hotels, crowded main streets selling mediocre street food e.g. Kuta, Pub Street, Ao Nang, Vitamin Sea may be the oasis you've been looking for all this time. The beaches at Anda are secluded and untouched so that you feel like you've chanced upon that paradise you've heard about but never seen, yet the resort is clean and comfortable so that you're not roughing it out with the fire ants.

My friends and I (all young professionals) spent this past weekend at Vitamin Sea resort and we really enjoyed our time, as if anyone was keeping track. Buddy and his wife Annie have poured their life savings into building this awesome place and it shows in their attention to each guest. Like another reviewer mentioned, you feel like you're joining a family as every staff member knows your name and looks out for you. From Romeo the night watchman/fish grill master to the ladies cooking and serving our meals, there was never a moment when I felt like I needed to ask for something before it was offered. That to me is the main charm of this place.

The beach is stunning during the day with clear, blue waters and white sand. Yes there is seaweed and urchins but nothing a pair of water shoes (that you can borrow for free) or a little boat paddle (also free) can't overcome. The sea bed alternates between seaweed/rock formations and clear sand, which you can stand on. I find it unfathomable how anyone who has taken a biology lesson or understands nature could possibly find fault with the environment. As we visited during typhoon season, we watched storms roll through the coast at night as lightning in the distance lit up the sky, illuminating the horizon. But during the day, all was clear and certainly sunny enough that we got sun burnt due to foolhardiness. We visited the nearby cave and it was exhilarating to jump 12 feet into a pool of cold, clear water; floating on our backs to admire the stalactites and sunlight dancing across the water's surface.

The food at Vitamin Sea is mix of home-style, Filipino and American food, all fresh and local. Local dishes like lechon manok, fresh grilled or pan fried fish and beef adobo were delicious, though one has to get used to the salt levels in local vinegar used in Filipino cooking. We had THE BEST fish tacos with jicama coleslaw wrapped in home made tortillas for lunch, and moist omelettes, pancakes and cinnamon french toast for breakfasts. I'd ask for real maple syrup over breakfast syrup but that's just me getting picky. Of course, all this was complimented by a well stocked beach bar with San Miguels and spirits.

To present a fair picture, you should be aware that the resort is far from civilization, which a bane or blessing depending on the vacation you're looking for. Travel time: half hour taxi ride from Cebu airport to the pier, 1hr 45-2hr ferry to either Tagbilaran or Tubigon (beware that ferries can cancel at the last minute, which happened to us on our return journey), followed by a 2 hour van ride to Anda. The resort is still under construction and our room amenities were slightly basic - no television or mini fridge - but this is made up for by the price, hospitality and stuff like free boat rental, shoes, snorkeling gear etc that one would have to pay for at standard resorts. Most importantly, the bed was firm and I had a good night's rest.

I would definitely recommend this resort to those who can appreciate the simple pleasures in life like a beer at sunset, and a couple working to build their dream business, while providing a memorable stay for guests.

The reason that this place is slightly cheaper compared to other accomodations is because it is still under construction. My wife and I were the only guests and were surprised to see such an eerie place. This place is so uninviting that even the owners seemed to have decided to lock themselves in their house during the three days of our stay. The place is still a construction site with an actual sand pit. The three rooms made availble to guests are still not ready to receive guests. These rooms are almost completely empty, have no atmosphere, and miss basic elements. There are still many loose cables sticking out of the walls, there are no comfortable seats (no soft cushions either), and there is no TV. If you want to sit around and relax anywhere this is only possible on your bed, because there are no places to sit, neither outside in the shade, nor indoors. Swimming in the sea is also impossible at this accomodation because of the many sea urchins (there is also no pool).
Even if you have low standards or a low budget, your best option will still be to stay at any other resort in the vicinity of Anda that does have furnished rooms and atmosphere. If you stay at Vitamin Sea you will regret it and find yourself going to bed early to get your stay over with as soon as possible.

These guests stayed during inclimate weather with a typhoon hovering in the vicinity. Although we were below the typhoon the outer wind and rain bands were significant. They asked for a refund due to the weather. After I told them I can not give refunds for bad weather, they asked to be given free food and drinks or they will write a very bad review! I was a little shocked at the request and the threat and obviously had to decline knowing this review would come. I did however, offer them free rental of a motorcycle which they declined. We did not avoid these guests they were just angry we didn't give them free food and drinks!

If you want to relax, get away from all the other tourists and are comfortable with that there are NOT many other restaurants or bars nearby - then you have found the perfect paradise! A fantastic newly established family hotel that will definitely be a 4+ star hotel when it is completed. The owners, an open and talkative American and his always cheerful Filipino wife, is so incredibly hospitable and there is no problem that can not be solved! They like to socialize with the guests at the bar in the evenings and will share tips and stories.
All rooms have sea views and is very spacious and clean! The rooms have their own little terrace and below begins the white sand beach. The hotel has its own beach chairs and umbrellas. A few meters into the sea it is sea grass and then a batch of sand again.Which can be reached easily by the owner's paddle boats that you can borrow to get out there, which is needed at low tide. When we were there it was a little inflated seaweed on the beach but the owner told us he would fix that and the day we checked out we saw his staff started to clean up the beach.
Another thing we missed since we went to the next resort is the owner's cooking! She does the most amazing food - a mix of American and Filipino food!

To do: Snorkeling, diving and the cave-trip is very well spent money!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
We are a small, cozy, but very comfortable beachfront resort located on the quiet "divers and lovers" side of Bohol Island in the Vasayas region of the Philippines. Bohol is serviced by several daily flights from Manila, the national capital, and fast ferries from Cebu, the regional center. The resort is located in the small and friendly municipality of Anda. It takes a little less than two hours along a good quality picturesque coastal road to reach the resort. We can arrange a car to meet you at the airport or the ferry terminal, or you could come by bus and "tricycle". With a total of only eight rooms - five Deluxe Beachfront Suites and three Standard Rooms - there will never be crowds. All our rooms face the sea and are only a few seconds walk from the beach. Our neighbors are local fishermen and farmers. We have lush green mountains behind us and miles of blue sea in front, as far as the eye can see. Our guests come from all over the world. Most are young couples, or young families, friends travelling together, expatriates relaxing, professionals recharging, and sometimes the occasional Hemingway stays for a while to work on a novel. Many are divers, but all enjoy the sea, or at least being close to it. And many friendships have been made at the Bar. All our guests praise the tranquility and beauty of the resort and its surroundings, and they are unanimous in commenting on the friendliness of the staff. ... more   less
