This isn't a modern hotel and that is very much part of its charm. Creaky staircases and sloping floors lead up to reasonably large and neatly decorated bedrooms furnished with comfortable, old, not particularly smart, furniture. Bathrooms are clean but don't expect shiny chrome. All in all it is a bit like staying in your elderly French aunt's house. Staff are welcoming. There is a garage (extra) although plenty of parking in the main square round the corner. Free wifi.
The restaurant is pretty good really and excellent value with a 3 course menu at Euro20 and a 4 course menu at 35. The cooking and the service is excellent (even if the waiter did tell me in which order to eat my cheese - he was only being helpful to an ignorant Brit!) Pichet wine which keeps the cost down.
Leon is very much worth a visit - the walled city is charming and the cathedral magnificent. It is a good stop on the way from the south of France to the channel ports and only 2 hours from the Tunnel.
All in all La Banniere is a splendid place to stop for a final dose of friendly Frenchness on the way back to the UK. Highly recommended.

On the last leg to home. Pleasant hotel with great food - dinner and breakfast. Staff very pleasant. Secure parking although somewhat tight if you have a big car to navigate into the garage. The room was fine for a one night stay - the bathroom very small - suggest some shelves need to go up in Room 20's bathroom as no where to put anything.

This is a very old building next to the centre of the medieval part of Laon. The rooms are not modern but that is part of the charm. The owner and staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. Breakfast was very nice, we did not have dinner at the hotel but the dining room looked fabulous.

I stayed at the Hotel de la Bannière with a group of college students on January 16th. The proprietor and his family could not have been more welcoming. The rooms were lovely and the beds were very comfortable. The farewell dinner they prepared for us was exceptional and would have easily cost 2 1/2 to 3 times as much in the U.S. The breakfast they prepared for our early morning departure was also delicious with all that one could want - coffee, tea, a variety of juices, baguettes, cheeses, ham, eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, etc. The hotel's location - just a short walk from the cathedral - is perfect. I highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was quite old fashioned, but a very friendly reception and very helpful employees. Our room was very comfortable (triple) on the second floor. When we booked we were informed that only 2 rooms were available, but it was actually on arrival quite empty. We ate in the restaurant in the evening - the atmosphere was very quite as there were only 3 other people eating there - however the food was excellent. Very central and easy access to the Catherdral. We pre-booked the hotel car park - otherwise you have to park on the street - narrow entrance / exit to car park.

Room tip: rooms overlooking street have obvious street noise, but not an issue for us
