“A return to the Loire”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Mary, the owner of the chateau was welcoming and helpful.
The B+B was well situated for enjoying the Loire River, vineyards and town of Saumur which was easily walkable.
The information advertised a heated pool and for once the water was as warm as had been claimed. It provided a relaxing haven to which to return after our bike outings.(having hired bikes in Saumur) We extended our stay from 2 to 4 nights.

Dear Ruth & Dai,
Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review. We very much enjoyed your visit to Chateau de Beaulieu and were so pleased when you decided to extend your stay with us.
I'm so glad you liked the heated swimming pool at Beaulieu after your long days spent cycling along the Loire á Velo cycle paths near Saumur. These cycle paths have been very much improved in recent years. The Loire á Velo path actually passes right by our front gate and provides a relatively safe way to explore the Loire River, the vineyards (producing Saumur champigny, crémants, etc.) and the nearby chateaux. So, I hope your stay has left you with pleasant memories of your stay in the Loire Valley, just as we fondly remember your visit.
Mary

We have just returned from a few days bed and breakfast at this chateau - it was a lovely experience and Mary was just great. Its location is very good - the Loire river being just across the road and only 5 mins from the restaurants etc. in Saumur. It is also very good for cyclists with lots of cycle tracks in the area.

Dear Beryl,
Lovely of you to take the time to write a review - and thank you for your kind words. We very much enjoyed the visit of you and your group to Chateau de Beaulieu, Saumur. I'm glad you liked the restaurants of Saumur which offer (at very reasonable prices) cuisine both traditional and Michelin Star. Also, I was glad you managed to fit in quite a few visits to the Chateaux of the Loire Valley, which are so easy to reach from Chateau de Beaulieu. Very best wishes to all for the future.

This has been our fifth visit to Saumur and each time we have stayed with Mary & Conor at their delightful home Chateau de Beaulieu and has to have to warmest welcome of anywhere we have stayed The breakfast table is a place to meet people from all corners of the globe and be refreshed with Mary's excellent breakfast and a good cup of tea !!! Each time we have stayed in Saumur it has been in high summer but this was our first visit in September. It was just as charming and relaxing as if it was our first time there, Saumur was a joy as the crowds had gone and there was time to stand and look at everything.
Thank you so much for another memorable stay Mary....

Room Tip: First floor rooms are the best with great furnishings and a real feel of staying in a French Chateau...

We had a wonderful two night stay in this beautiful chateau. It is an ideal base for exploring the Loire region around Saumeur and its amazing chateaux. We had such a warm welcome from Mary and Conor, they were delightful and full of interesting information. The decor was an amazing mix of traditional and modern and yet we felt so at home. With a four-poster bed, Mary's lovely breakfast and Conor's conversation we were sorry to leave. Definitely a highlight of our trip.
.We will return.

Ideal combination of a great local scenery, a superb house/chateau, a very friendly welcoming Mary and her French staff, and not to forget a swimming pool to delight the youngsters.
We stayed in one of the family rooms in one of the aisles. Was cosy, roomy and had all the character of an old traditional French house. Everything needed was there at hand, beds offering a reasonable comfort and the bathroom being fairly practical albeit simple.
Breakfast around the very long table which allows all in the chateau to sit at the same time creates a great opportunity to exchange experiences with other guests, French or not. You may go for the traditional French pastries option or you may reassure yourself with an English cooked breakfast. Just ask.
Could not conclude without having a word about Mary and her husband: two charming welcoming hosts, from the very moment we called them to book till the time to say goodbye after debating our various worldwide experiences.
Well done. Keep up the super work.

I booked my recent two night stay at short notice through www.smoothred.co.uk - and, boy, am I pleased I did. The house is beautiful and stylishly adorned with period pieces from all over France. My room, directly beneath the skylighted roof turret, was very comfortable. Alongside, from her homemade scones n jam cream tea that unexpectedly greeted my arrival to the loan of a converter plug and book to read, the owner, Mary, was the perfect hostess - and her colleagues, Monique and Annette, are similarly delightful. I recommend heartily and would love one day to return...
