Owner description: Tourisitc visits of Ackerman's cellars in Saumur and tasting. A three-part visit at the heart of troglodyte cellars : a trip throughout history, an artistic experience and a break on the Loire river... Founded in 1811, Ackerman is the leading producer of Loire Valley fine sparkling wines. Situated in Saumur, on the banks of the Thouet river, a tributary of the Loire, at once informative and entertaining, the cellars of the House of Ackerman combine charm, heritage, and prestige. The wines of Ackerman are true to type, well-balanced and elegant. Thanks to a large selection of fine sparkling wines (Cremant de Loire, Saumur Brut) and Loire Valley still wines (Saumur-Champigny, St Nicolas de Bourgueil, Chinon, Sancerre...), you will be able to appreciate the prestige of a great brand which has seduced consumers world-wide over the past two centuries. Ackerman is bubbly, luminous and enticing. The House's still, sparkling, organic and alcohol-free wines are available at its boutique all year round. Discover Ackerman's world of wines.

It was the marketing that set this out from the usual crowd of tours round Saumur's wine making cellars - and it was certainly different!

The usual winemaking and history section was beautifully lit, well written and imaginatively delivered via different media - note winemaking/storing does not happen here anymore.

Then there was the modern art - you either love it or hate it! It was amazing in our view and we throughly enjoyed it - especially the opportunity to warm up a bit (the whole attraction is at 12 degrees C) in the final section where local games and challenges were available for you to try! Loved the unusual 'gutter' boule!

Friendly staff who were happy to welcome us even at the end of their working day. Interesting route through the caves but visitors must be aware that the manufacture of wine no longer occurs here. Great art installation which was worth seeing. Wine tasting was good and purchases were of a reasonable price.

I dropped into Ackerman to buy some wine to day and left several hundred euro poorer. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful at pairing their produce with one's tastes.

While the tasting bar does tend to get busy with tourists on the hunt for free samples, it does not get in the way of the staff's helpfulness or willingness to educate.

They show you the cellar with some show inside, but nothing really special. It just shows the wine and champagne making, and a little bit of art. It is good, you not just forced to purchase or taste immediately. Do not forget to take some warm clothes with you, as it is cold like a cellar.
Finally you got the chance of tasting some wines, but they were amateur about it. They forgot to tell anything about what we were tasting, they were busy with something else. We should remind them several times, that we wanted something else.
We also shopped, they also forgot about us, despite we purchased around 15 bottles (it is not that much, but I would expect much more willingness from them to serve the customers).
Otherwise they were helpful.
Price of the wines/champagne were ok, I would not say cheap or expensive.
