“Lowest priced chateau, well worth the visit”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We took in the chateau on the drive from Langeais to Angers. When exiting the chateau, remember to take the tunnel back to the river. Continuing straight down the hill got us to a totally different part of town. Some might say we were lost. The Chateau was under repair which may have explained the five euro price. There were rooms with ceramics or porcelain dishes. We listened in on one guided tour which only had one couple. It sounded well worth it, if you like that type of visit. It is not a significant chateau but part of the experience of chateau hopping in the area. The best part of the visit was the restaurant across the street. It had bacon and eggs, which I really missed.

“A Work in progress with fantastic views”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

The Chateau is in the process of a major revamp and because of this it is not yet fully open to the public. Never-the-less it offers interesting exhibitions and seasonal events, the on site restaurant is not bad if a bit touristy (but then this is a tourist attraction)!
The views alone are well worth the visit and the entrance fee - look out for the skydivers sometimes seen above the local airfield to the West.

“Beautiful Chateau”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

When we visited the Chateau was in the process of being restored thus we only got to see one level of the Chateau. However, our guide was a wealth of historical information and provided us with a wonderful historical background to the Chateau and French history. Saumur is an short bus ride (or drive your car) from Angers. While in the region, be sure to explore all the Troglodytes places.

“Little of interest to see”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Like many chateaux, this has had many uses over the years. It has housed a municipal ceramics museum and a display about horseracing (Saumur is a major centre of the French sport), neither of which is well presented or interesting. Little material on the history of the castle or its significance.
