Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The Machines de l’Ile is an artistic and a tourist project. It is a blend of the invented worlds of Jules Verne, the mechanical universe of Leonardo da Vinci, and the industrial history of Nantes, on an exceptional site in the former shipyards. A ride on the 12-meter tall Great Elephant, climb aboard the Marine Worlds Carrousel of 27 moving sea creatures or the Heron Tree to fly over the hanging gardens.

Neat ride on a huge mechanical elephant. It actually "walks". Great in good weather. We visited one day before the season opening!

Don't panic! No magician did transport you in any tropical place: that gigantic elephant walking towards you, trumpeting in clouds of water droplets is a machine.
You have just landed in a kind of 'Jules Verne' universe.
Get ready to confront gigantic animals worth of the lost world of 'A Journey to the Center of the Earth'! Confront the monsters at the carousel you imagine straight out of 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'! Observe carnivorous plants, gigantic birds, enormous insects as if you are crossing the Africa of 'Five Weeks in a Balloon' or from the 'Propeller Island'. Soon, in 2017, you will travel in 'The Village in the Treetops' of which a first assembly is already visible at the entrance of the great hall.
You will remember your 6-hours visit at 'Les Machines de l'Île' like it was a 'Two Years' Vacation'.

This machine is better if you look at it when it is moving. Not so great when you are actually in the elephant. 30 minutes ride and unless you are travelling with kids, it is a bit boring. How this huge machine works is pretty amazing though.

Great day out!

The tour around the workshops was interesting but the main event was the ride on the mechanical elephant.

Reasonable cost and interesting for all ages. We had 6 kids from 7-15 and all enjoyed themselves.

Well worth a trip.

A visual feast - wonderfully surreal and of course the elephant is superb. Lots of the displays were not working and it just wasn't as hands on as we had hoped for. Teen loved it, toddler was bored... Overall glad we went, but probably won't return.
