Its a cheeky review as we took one look at the front of the Hotel and immediately checked into the Kyriad over the road.
However, we strolled over to the Campanile Restaurant and they squeezed us into a busy Thursday evening as many British Refugees of the cancelled Santander to Plymouth ferry were there.
We loved it! The manager was very welcoming (really nice leather suit too) and our waiter was the best! Patronised our poor French with pleasant charm and explained things to us in excellent English. They did a buffet which actually looked great, particularly the deserts. We chose simple al a carte dishes and concluded that it was the best meal we had had for weeks on holiday in Spain and travelling up through France.
Campanile Hotels are seen to be functional stop overs tht suit some people but this restaurant is worth a visit wherever you are staying in Le Mans.

I hate to give a bad review of any establishment but this is without a doubt the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to come across and I want people to be aware of a few things before booking.

The location of the hotel (although I think 'hostel') is a more appropriate word, is far from ideal - it is in the middle of nowhere, off the beaten track and not near anywhere in Le Mans you would want to visit. The rooms are even worse: all the pictures we had seen on this site before booking, and the hotel's site must have been taken in the 70s, which is clearly when our room was last renovated. It had definitely seen some action during those years, and I dread to think what type, but traces of blood were all too visible on the net curtain. The lampshade on the desk had mould stains on the inside. The bathroom was in not much better shape - the grouting on the bath was all cracked and the rest I can't remember too clearly, as we were in such a hurry to leave.

The young girl at reception however, was lovely. We had already paid for the room and despite not understanding our English very well she managed to get us transferred to the Campanile in Angers instead at no extra charge (which was not much better but at that one was last refurbed in the 80s).

I'd say this is more like a 1 star hotel (if that) and the irony is that we paid (£60) for this awful room, when we could have paid an extra £20 and stayed in a four star hotel. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but we would definitely never stay in a Campanile again!

This is one of the older Campanile hotels which my wife and I stayed in our way back from South west France to the channel tunnel. We were offered an evening meal, but we like to stay in a modest hotel and dine out at a good quality restaurant in the evening. However, it would take about half an hour to walk into the centre of Le Mans where the restaurants are in the medieval quarter, so we had to drive. The hotel is located on a fairly busy junction and consequently there is a certain amount of traffic noise if you have a room on the front of the hotel. Rooms at the back looked quite dark and dingy but were probably quieter. The reception area is pleasant with large relax chairs and an open style restaurant adjacent. There is an open air veranda with umbrellas and tables where you can take drinks and relax.
There is plenty of parking and at night the car park is secured with a coded barrier. The staff speak English and are pleasant and helpful. Rooms are large for this type of hotel although our room looked a bit tired. There is a bathroom with shower, toilet etc, but the bath surround was mouldy and needed re-caulking. Otherwise clean and tidy. As with all Campaniles you get free wi fi and this was available throughout the hotel. A TV carries lots of channels but none in English. There is no air conditioning and it was quite warm without it.
Breakfast was really good with fruit juice, croissants, cereal, very well presented fruit dishes, ham, cheese, various teas, coffee. Very good value at €9.95.
A fairly good hotel for an overnight stop and value for money at £57. We booked well in advance so got a great rate but there are better hotels in Le Mans at a similar price.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back l;ikely to be quieter but fairly dark

Accommodation - satisfactory - for the price. Beds OK. Easy access to car - able to park right outside room door ! Best part were the bar / lounge and restaurant facilities - both very good. Excellent breakfast menu - varied and well prepared food, and plenty of it. Reasonably central location, but also on "inner ring road" for ease of access.
