I had wanted to visit the Carre Plantagenet after seeing the fantastic enamelled plaque of Geoffrey d'Anjou - the first of the Plantagenets, on a BBC4 documentary. Seeing this was a highlight of the visit for me, but the museum offered so much more! We were given an explanatory leaflet in English, as well as a more detailed English guide to the exhibits to borrow. We found the museum very interesting, with various styles of presentation: short films, interactive exhibits, as well as short visual demonstrations of various historical activities eg making a slate bracelet. The museum traces the history of Le Mans through various historical periods with many wonderful exhibits. Highly recommended.

A small museum detailing the local history of Le Mans and the Plantaganet dynasty that started here. The museum is easy to navigate around and includes a skeleton of a child. There are also several Beaumont family tombstones from a local abbey.

This museum is well worth a visit especially at only 2.5 Euros. It carefully explores the traces of man's habitation in the vicinity throughout the ages. There is an English guide pamphlet freely available at the front desk, which greatly helped me understand the exhibits, together with the visual information alongside many of the the artefacts. The building itself is beautiful, affording a stunning view of the Cathedral and the staff are only too happy to assist.

Managed to keep my teenagers interested for nearly 2 hours. Very interesting stuff and presented in the right combination of static displays and animations.
Someone needs to explain the toilet design as it has to be the most intriguing feature!!
