Beautiful hotel in this apparently top-end resort. Large, airy room was luxuriously appointed with "country house style" decor. Lovely bathroom. Superlative breakfasts. Huge bed. Really fun to be able to use the complimentary bikes to explore the local area.
Staff were totally top notch: excellent English and always on the lookout to assist ( with maps, umbrellas, bags, parking etc.)
If you are uninspired by the slightly dismal beachfront restaurants, I would recommend a little trip to Le Pouligen. It is a pretty, buzzy little town just about 1km west of the hotel ( from the front of the hotel, turn right and follow the beach! Then just walk up by the side of the river and cross the bridge). Also a useful tip if you are outside high season when lots of places seem to be closed.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and it never fails to disappoint. First class establishment in a Belle Epoque style! Part of the Lucien Barriere Group which well known throughout France with other hotels in La Baule and Deauville.

We stayed two nights at this beautiful old hotel and would happily have stayed more. In this off season, The restaurants are uncrowded, the walk along the beach is wide open, and the air is cool.

The less than great thing about the hotel is that it is an updated and beautiful old building, so the shower we had in our bathroom had been squeezed in and was tiny and the best air flow was just to throw open the big windows. Also, the hotel sits back a bit from the beach so the rooms do not have ocean views. But the beach is right across the road and a walk through this hotel's pretty grounds is no hardship.

These downsides are more than made up for by the beauty of the grounds, the graciousness of the staff, and the elegance. Best of all is a wonderful restaurant that you shouldn't miss. Be sure to have one of your dinners there! I treated myself to lobster in white wine sauce and it was truly the best I have ever had.

The staff is amazing. I don't know if she was the manager, but the woman who seemed to be playing that role when we checked in learned that we like to hike, and offered to bring us information from her home. The next morning, she brought us copies of pages from a book she owned personally, with maps and directions for hikes in the area, and she had picked hikes for us that matched with what we told her we liked. It was extraordinarily thoughtful of her.

We also asked for a recommendation nearby for our second dinner, and she sent us to a terrific place. So great help for that, too. Five stars for the staff!

This hotel on the edge of La Baule city is a quiet haven opposite the beautiful sandy bay with it's expansive golden beach.

The welcome was warm and we were shown around the hotel and checked in swiftly and professionally. The décor is reminiscent of 1980's opulence, a little dated but does not in any way spoil your stay or the feel of the hotel. The rooms are large, comfortable and immaculately clean with stacks of storage space and a well appointed and spacious bathroom. Bath robes and slippers are provided and there is a minibar and a safe.

We had dinner in the restaurant and I thought that the food and service were absolutely top, top quality and I could find nothing that I could criticise whatsoever.

Oysters were delicious and both the langoustines with monkfish and the St Pierre were outstanding.

Breakfast was self service continental style and very good indeed.

We loved this hotel and though it was superb value and outstanding qulity, I would like to return and would thoroughly recommend it.

I stayed at the Castle Marie Louise for two nights with my little group. From the moment we arrived at the hotel with our luxury coach, there were two very pleasant gentlemen by the coach door, to welcome us and take care of the luggage.
From then on the experience kept getting better and better. From the front desk to the dinning room the service was extremely proffesional.
The breakfast were very well served with an enormous choice of fruits, cold cut, bread, pastry ,fresh compote and fresh jams,( home made and excellent), and Viennoisery.
Each evening we had an aperitif and amuse bouche served in a lovely lounge, just the perfect touch to set up the mood for an excellent gourmet dinner.
Then we retired in our somptuous and very well appointed bedroom, from which if you kept the windows open, you could hear the gentle roll of the waves breaking softly on one of the most beautiful beach of France.
All in all it was the perfect choice to start our Loire Valley tour.
I can only recommend the Castle Marie Louise to any one who can appreciate and enjoy, the finer things of life.

Room tip: Book a room with sea view. Make sure to have at least one dinner at the Castle.
