There is little one can add to the other fine reviews of this sublimely beautiful and delicious restaurant on the riverfront just down the street from the theatre/opera of Rouen. The staff are so refined, and the chef(s) are fabulous. We chose the "surprise" menu, with a focus on seafood. One of the most amazing courses was the pairing of apples, calvados, and dos de cabillaud. Just delicious. The whole evening was like that: one surprise after another. Its the No. 1 restaurant in Rouen on Trip Advisor. And it should be.

From the moment we walked into Gill until the moment we left, we were made to feel at home in their open, somewhat modern dining room. Mme Tournadre is a warm and welcoming person who sets the tone for impeccable service.

The cuisine is quite deserving of its two Michelin stars. In style the menu contains a mix of Norman and modern dishes each with a mix of classic and modern technique. My wife had an asparagus starter which does not begin to describe the variety of delicious flavors in it, followed by a Breton lobster. I had a langoustine starter followed by the pigeon main, a specialty of the house. Dessert was a sharing of a calvados soufflé which was redolent of apple along with its accompanying sorbet.

The sommelier was very helpful in finding wines by the glass, since our pigeon and lobster were mutually incompatible.

All taken together, this was one of the best meals I have had, and is an experience I will always remember.

While dinning at the Gill restaurant which was recommended by our hotel, we thought that it is a 2 star Michelin restaurant but soon found that its other restaurant of same name is.

The Gill cafe is excellent in every way from choice of menu to service. We had the 3 course fixed price dinner and enjoyed it so much that we had lunch at the 2 star Michelin restaurant the next day.

Also at the 2 Michelin star restaurant, we throughly enjoyed the 3 course fixed price lunch. In between each dish, we were surprised by complimentary dishes.

Both the cafe and the restaurant are very highly recommended and we would go back again definitely when in Rouen.

Probably the best, although not the most expensive, dinner we experienced in our three weeks in France. A Michelin two star, and it shows. The décor, service, food and wine were all just wonderful. Absolutely faultless.
