I was delighted to observe that this venerable restaurant's quality has not lapsed in the ten or so years that have elapsed since I last dined here. The cooking is luscious, neither heavy nor contrived. Pleasant locale overlooking the river, just a couple blocks from the cathedral.

I certainly can't complain about my meal at Gill. The food was well prepared and the service was attentive. It was, however, uninspiring and rather dull. To me, the food was rather like the decor, a bit too stark, and there was nothing to excite the senses. In contrast, my experience at the nearby La Coronne, was heavenly and a memorable experience.

Although set on a busy road along the Seine, the calm, muted elegance of Gill's interior soon whisks you away into its restrained but delightful classic French cuisine. Service is polite and prompt; in addition, madame brings to it that touch of friendly, professional charm which helps make the experience more personal. We shared a seven course tasting menu - at 98 Euros pretty good value given the level of food and drink. Highlights were sea bass, a melt in the mouth venison dish and a wondrous millefeuille which disintegrated like flakes of burnt paper at the touch of the fork. Wine was excellent and set at ungrasping prices. Much enjoyed and highly recommended.

Wonderful lunch at Gill. We chose the 7 course degustation and were delighted that we did so - the combination of flavours and textures were quite sublime. Stand outs for us were a superb scallop dish; the venison; and an extraordinary millefeuille. Service was impeccable, as to be expected at a 2 star restaurant. Thoroughly recommended.
