Very pleasant experience - very nice staff - old, charming building with not terribly thick walls between rooms. The disadvantage here is that - as was my experience one night - if loud individuals are in the next room you lose a lot of sleep. But this is not the hotel's fault...

We were greeted by an efficient, energetic and charming man (the owner I think) who could not have been more helpful, with maps and wifi and tips on where to eat. His english was really good too. We took three rooms - two doubles and a triple - and they were simple, clean and welcoming. The rooms, like the hotel, were a bit quirky, as this is a very old building in the heart of Rouen. But if you are they type that craves an expensive bland hotel then there are plenty of big names to choose from, but personally I would choose the Morand again.

A pleasant, basic, well located hotel. We had two rooms on the third floor (no lift) which got a bit too hot at night (we were there in Summer) and room 16 has a sloping roof, so I wouldn't recommend that one.

Room Tip: Avoid room 16

Dear BowTie49,
First Of all , thanks for your review .it always help us to have a feedback.
I feel glad to read that you enjoyed your stay here .
We apologize for the heatwave of the previous weeks in France.( 35 degrees in Rouen during your stay)
it's true that our very old building , during a heatwave , could be hot , especially on our top floors.
I am sure you can understand that there is no more aircooling in a 2 stars Hôtel in Rouen Normandy , especially for 50€ / nights average ....The air cooling could be helpful only once a year and during the previous ten years it wasn't true every years !
Concerning the room 16 , it's important to add for the other travellers that this room is named evreywhere : ATTIC ROOM ( 42€ / night only on our official website).
We always depict on every communication media that our property is an old post relay built in the 17th century . We even explain on them that the rooms are not soundproofed and that there is no elevator.Your choice is yours.
Moreover , concerning the Attic single room , we display on line a picture of the room but also the roof ! You can check it.There are also blackout curtains on each windows and a aircooler for this very particular low cost room.I have also renovated the room 6 month ago!
I make all i can to improve our level services .I am sure you saw it during your visit.
At least , it will be a pleasure to welcome you again during a summer with seasonal temperatures
Best regards

Thomas LOUIS

This hotel is located on a quiet corner away from main roads and close to the railway station. It is outside the core of the historic city centre but this is only a few minutes walk away, largely along streets with little or no traffic. The building is old: it has a lot of character, especially downstairs, but the bedroom floor has some worn décor and rather thin walls. Nonetheless, the bedrooms are very well equipped and we found everything working well. The hotel has been under new management since 2011 and our visit was really enjoyable because of the thoughtfulness and efficiency of its staff. We were sent a welcoming email (with late arrival instructions if needed), and city maps and leaflets awaited us in the room. All questions received very helpful answers. Breakfast presentation and quality were excellent. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants traditional France with quality and service!

Dear TtrainTtraveller,
As i wrote for Vanessa H ,
Many Thanks , that kind or review help us a lot to pursue our efforts !
Especially concerning the future , after 2 years ( renovation programm , New 2 Stars classification , several important purchases ...) . My purpose is clear : improve again and again this 2 Stars coaching Inn.
It will never be a "new" building because i want to keep the Cachet of our old post relay of the 17th Century and all its Character!
Thanks again

The hotel Morand was a positive suprise for the rate offered. Most praise has to be given to the staff, who where always nice and helpful (thanks to the young man who helped with our suitcases!)

The room we had was very comfortable and clean and offered complementary tea and coffee "equipment" (water kettle and instant coffee as well as tea bags, sugar and cream). The TV mounted on the wall could be seen very well from both single beds. The bathroom only had a screen door, so if you do not know each other very well, it could a bit uncomfortable, but during our trip through France we found the screen door a common occurence. The in-room bathrooms were installed later. The bathrooms in the hall also were very clean and spacious.

Highlight in Hotel Morand was the breakfast room/bar with the comfortable armchairs and the fire place. We regret not having had the time to spend an evening there.

The breakfast also was a pleasant surprise (at the rate offered, we had no high expectations based on other hotels we stayed in), but the comfortable breakfast room and the nice staff as well as lovingly arranged breakfast tables invited to linger longer than necessary with your tea or coffee and basked of mixed rolls and croissants.

All in all, very much recommended for "fit" travelers (the stairs are a bit intimidating and there is no elevator), families and everyone who is looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Rouen near the station (about 5 min on foot) and near the Tour de Jeanne D'Arc (directly opposite; in the next street). The city center can also be reached on foot in about 10 - 15 min (depending on how fast you are).

Dear Samira M,
Many Thanks for that glowing review. Our purpose consist in professionnalism.
The points quoted points out our strengths.
Concerning our weaknesses , as you depict it perfectly , travellers have to keep in mind that our property is a 2 Satrs Renovated Coaching Inn. That's Cristal Clear ....

My daughter and I stayed here two nights, July 27-29. I chose it based on the proximity to the train station, tge pruce, and the previous positive reviews. The person who checked us in, as well as any other staff we encountered were helpful and accomodating. The hotel is in a very old building (as is most of Rouen-that's its beauty), and very quaint. Our room was a good size, breakfast was good, typical coffee, croissants, yogurt, and easy walking distance to anything you want to see in the city.

The owner was very friendly and spoke English well. There was no elevator but the stairs were wide enough to drag your luggage up the stairs without breaking your back. The room was ok for a 2 star hotel. It was clean and simple. It worked well for us as we stayed only 1 night and the location was great! The public carpark wasn't too hard to find and was only 1 block away from the hotel.
