If it's 8 PM and you're looking for a light meal rather than a real restaurant meal, this will be one of the few options you have. There are loads of people sitting at the outdoor tables having a beer or a glass of wine. Very few are eating anything, but we sat an ordered two individual pizzas on the 15.50 Euro special which included 250 ml of wine and a "crumble" dessert with ice cream. It was food. The pizza tasted as if it came out of the freezer from the supermarket and had been placed in the oven. That is, almost flavorless. The wine was terrible. The crumble was surprisingly good, The meal was cheap for this area and was, indeed, the small meal we wanted.

On a recent cruise to Rouen, up the Seine with Brittany Ferries we came across this marvellous little bar in the old market place.

They didn't take the mickey out of my attempts to converse in French and spoke very good English.

We had a pizza each. All were of a high quality and very good value.

A marvellous ambience and well frequented by locals which in my view is a true test of whether to use the place.

This place is on the edge of the main square in Rouen. It’s a very popular bar and restaurant, and we’d wandered around the square checking out the other places, though none were even half as busy as this one.
There’s a lot of outside seating, and it was hard to get a space, must be very popular with the locals for a drink after work.
We had a drink soaking up the atmosphere then moved inside (upstairs) to the restaurant. The restaurant is quite small and has a few bar stool style tables and some larger lower tables. The menu has a good range to choose from, with quite a few pizzas. They also had a menu in English, great for us ignorant types who can’t speak a work of French ().
We ended up having a pizza and a pasta dish, plus some fries, and this along with a couple of large beers each, came to a very reasonable £32.
The atmosphere was really good and the service also good, with the waiter being quite attentive and always checking out his tables.
A good place to go either for a ‘people watching’ drink outside, or a good quality pizza.
One question however…..French….Potato on pizza…Really ???
