Nice bit of history centered around the clock and bell tower. well designed audio tour, ending in a great panoramic view of the city.

From ancient cathedral to wierdley modern church in the market place this street has it all however pride of place .goes to the incredible astranomical clock, its arch and the lovely fountain just round the corner. You can go up the clock turret.
This is a street where you should look up, to the roofs and gables and the inscriptions on the old buildings that line it.
I do not quite know what to make of the Joan of Arc church sitting like a long tailed armadillo in the old market place and incorporating a small covered market area.
Lots of eateries overlook it.

In terms of great streets for walking and taking in the atmosphere, I would prefer just about any street in Rouen over this one. It is filled with expensive boutiques and chain stores like McDonalds.

As far as location goes though, it is pretty cool. You've got the clock in the middle of it, the cathedral at one end and the old market (Vieux Marche), where Joan of Arc was executed, at the other. And the side streets off this street take you to all the important sites in the city.

The Rue du Gros-Horloge literally translates as 'Street of the Large Clock', and it runs westwards from the southern side of the Notre Dame Cathedral Square through to the Place du Vieux-Marche (ancient market square).

It is a narrow and busy, bustling pedestrian thoroughfare, whose centrepiece comprises an archway spanning the street, which supports the Large Clock.

This is somewhere that I would recommend visiting for its architecture and the fact that it is somewhat out of the ordinary and unusual compared with the average urban street.

The street and the beautiful astronomical clock, which dates back to the 16th century, are worth visiting when in Rouen. The street has a number of very old buildings representing some interesting architecture. Restaurants are nearby where food can be purchased.
